Hi There,
I'm not familiar with forum. Hoping I can get any help
Last week I boght an HP ENVY 15-j040el
S/N [removed serial number for personal protection to prevent others from using SN to file fraudulent warranty claims]
Product Number: E4N80EA
Since the beginning I noticed wireless didn't detect 5G signal of my router but I was so in hurry to perfoming the installation till the end
Unfortunately nothing changed. I tried:
- upgrade to Windows 8.1
- upgrade to 5.0.37.0 (25.11.13) RT3290 wireless adapter driver
I wonder whether I should configure advance parameters of RT3290 driver
Thanks in advance

You're very welcome, Sergio.
I am a consumer like you and do not work for HP, so unfortunately, I don't know what model wireless cards HP installs in their notebooks.
I do agree with you however, that 5.0 GHz has been around for ages now and it is high time HP installs a $10 better dual band card.
I'm sure folks would be happy to pay the small extra price.
My understanding is that HP may have removed the BIOS white list from stopping wireless cards not listed in the manual from working, so you could experiment and see if you can install a dual band card in your notebook.
No guarantees it will work but a year ago, I would have told you it was impossible.

P.S.: If you decide to take a chance on another wireless card, please let us know if it worked for you.

Hi:
The Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn is only a single band (2.4 GHz) only card.
Anytime you see a wireless adapter listed as bgn, that means it is a single band card.
A dual band card will be listed as abgn or agn.

I am astonished. How come that such a HP laptop could be limited in communication capability?
My old laptop is 4 years old and it does enable 5G wireless and by the way it was cheaper.
I think I am going to give it back as it does not fulfill my working reqirements
By the way I wanted to buy a HP ENVY 15-j103el (same price level) but it was not available so I decided for j040el ready available.
Does HP ENVY 15-j103el include same Ralink RT3290 wireless adaptor?
Sorry for my surge.
Thanks & regards
Sergio
