I have exactly the same problem please somebody help me I don't know what else can I do  :Crying:

Three weeks ago I bought this "amazing" laptop that would cover all of my needs and work as a desktop replacement since I needed power more than portability, after reviewing many models I decided for the HP envy dv7 laptop and now I regret for buying it. I have exactly the same problems that are mentioned in this forum, but even following all of the solutions you say I haven't solved my problem: my internet doesn't go pretty well. I'm used to have a good connection speed with my old laptop, so when the problem started I was like  I've just bought this What's happening?

My router is downstairs and my laptop doesn't recognize the wifi network most of the time and when it does the signal is too weak and it goes down every five minutes. I tried everything. I've even tried uninstalling the driver and letting Windows find the best adapter but none of the solutions you mentioned worked. I also updated the HP Bios, installed all of the Windows 8 updates and guess what??? Nothing happened.

Someone could probably say that the problem is my router but why I can connect with my other laptop with a good connection speed and it doesn't go down. They're just one next to each other so what's happening??? I don't know what's wrong with it but I bought this new laptop cause I thought it was one of the bests, I now realize it's not. Isn't it sad that something like the wifi network adapter can ruin such an amazing machine.

Btw here the specs of my new laptop

HP ENVY dv7 with intel core i7-3630QM CPU 2.4 GHz processor and 16,0 Gb RAM. The network adapter is Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn

And I'm now connecting from a HP ProBook 4530s with intel core i3-2350M CPU (2.30 GHz) and 4gB  RAM and with a  Realtek RTL8188CE network adapter

Appears some are having success with the windows 8.1 update. I for 1 need to go somewhere to get that update as I see its over 3GB of data and I am only allowed 1G per day with my ISP.

If someone could identify what exactly is fixing this problem and make it downloadable for network adapter only, it would be great!!

I'm still using my external wifi netgear adapter for connection with my new laptop..

This is a nightmare! After enjoying my WiFi for about a week, I lost it today during an episode of Fringe. Now it's even worse because it doesn't even recognise my network. Someone, Ralink or Windows, needs to sort this out! If anyone finds a permanent fix please let me know.

I believe the only true fix would be for HP to replace these piece of junk wifi adapters with working ones!

But since that probably won't happen, if you want good solid connections, go get an external wifi Netgear adapter to plug into a usb port. Have had no problems with mine but I did have it on hand already.

I'm experiencing the same issue and elected to replace the adapter. Since I don't care for the Ralink adapter, I installed an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 only to be met with a configuration error when the system booted. I bit the bullet and purchased a replacement Ralink RTA5390 and popped it in the system (Pavillion g7 Notebook); got hit with the same error at bootup... How do we get around this hardware restriction? This is a standard mini PCIe exapansion slot so standard hardware should work! I hope we aren't locked into HP's hardware choices when they are obviously not the best ones... As a temporary work around, I've disabled the internal adapter and started using a D-link mini USB adapter; it works as it should.

Is no one from HP going to explain why non-HP-supplied mini PCIe WLAN cards don't work in the Pavillion g7 laptops!? It's pretty plain the Ralinks are substandard and not very reliable. Is HP hardware so proprietary that only products purchased from them will work? If so, I can see why HP's market share is dwindling...

Just bought two HP Pavilion G7 notebooks for my Kids.

Emailed reciept accidentally was deleted from best buy and of course now they won't fix under warranty 😞

Same problem with one of the laptops- Poor Connection!!!

Version V5.0.37.0 from 12/4/2013 has solved the issue for me.

My Ralink adpter shows it is working properly in the Device manager but the light on the F12 key will not go to green - it shows disabled but in the device manager it shows enabled - and I have switched it on and off several times. Any ideas? How can I reset the hardware? This all started when I was in a hotel and I used a Lan cable plugged into my laptop and since then the light stays orange.
