When I ran Windows Update today, it found there was an update for the Wi-Fi Adapter on my Compaq CQ58-260SA laptop, which I have installed.
However, when restarting the laptop as instructed, I am now getting these warnings in the Event Viewer and I do not know why it is happening or how to fix it.

Hi,
I highly recommend that you uninstall the update to your Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter that Windows suggested that you install. You can do that within the Device manager. Just rollback the driver.
You will have the best success with your wireless adapter if you use only driver updates supplied by HP or from a Ralink source.
Best regards,
erico

Hi Paul
Thank you for your reply
I am surprised the HP Support Assistant did not detect there were any updates for my Compaq CQ58-260SA Windows 8, laptop, as it is set to "Install all updates automatically".

You're very welcome.
Sometimes the S/A fails to notify the user of the latest driver updates.
I would definitely set that program to only notify you of updates, and let you choose when to install them, and not set it on "autopilot."
I have read several tales of woe about that program downloading and installing BIOS updates while the user was running programs on the PC = failed BIOS flash = dead PC.
You never want to be running anything when doing a BIOS update -- especially the antivirus program.
Also, before doing a BIOS update, one should always read the release notes to see if they want to even bother taking the risk of updating the BIOS.

Each time WiFi connection drops, I get this message:
-----------------
Source: Tcpip, Event ID: 4291
The network adapter with hardware address __-3E-__-7F-BD-__ has indicated packet coalescing capability without indicating support for one or more prerequisite receive filter capabilities (IPv4 0x00000000).
-----------------
It happend on a regular basis, lots of times per day.
HP ProBook 4540s, Produktnummer: H6P99ES#ACB.
WiFi card is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn.
Windows 8.1 Pro x64 is installed(Dreamspark licenced). The latest BIOS is installed (68IRR F.43), latest WiFi driver (Mediatek 802.11 WLAN v1.0), latest WLAN Button Driver (v1.1.2.1) Energysaving for WiFi I have set to "off", IPv6 is set to "off".
When I have manually typed my local IP Address(192.168.1.6), Standart Gateway (192.168.1.1), DNS (Google8.8.8.8), Internet drops only about one time in an hour, or when I use the Internet intensly(skype, in InternetExplorer 5 webpages opend with youtube).
Realtek RT3290 chip is a combo WiFi+Bluetooth, so the same thing happened hier - sometimes Bluetooth adapter just dissappears from Devises list.
Is it a driver problem or not - the next Warning in Event Viewer has something to do with WiFi dropuots:
-----------------
Source: DNS Clients Events, Event ID: 1014
"Name resolution for the name "Name of the websime, www.bing.com" timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."
-----------------
Tablet PC has no problems with internet connection and WiFi Adsl Router(Alice WLAN-10) and alwas works fine.
Maybe I need to change some properties of Ralink RT3290 like
This connection uses the following items(what i have checked):
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- File and Printer sharing for MS Networks
- QoS Packet Scheduler
- Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver
- Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder
- IP v4
Or enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP?
Please help. Maybe someone is looking solution for the same problem. There is not much cases of this sort in Internet, that is why I am writing hier.

Tengo la tarjeta Ralink 3290 y al actualizar los drivers a la version 5.037 desde la 5.05.0 , se empieza a producir el evento TCPIP id ev ento 4291, motivo por el cual pienso que algun error tiene la nueve versión del driver.
Yo he vuelto a la version 5.05 y problema resuelto
