Hello,

I get an SM RTP.exe error when shutting down my HP Pavilion dv4.

I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows Home edition to Ultimate.

How do is resolve this error?

Thank you.

Hi tsanudi,

From what you are describing, it sounds as though a particular program is not closing down properly, thus giving you the error message on shut down. I would like to try a test with you. What you will need to do, is perform a clean boot on your computer, and the shut down your computer as you normally would, to see if you get the same error message. I have included the document 'How to perform a clean boot in Windows'.

Now once you have completed the steps for a clean boot, please make sure that you do restart your computer for it to fully take effect. Most of the time your computer will prompt you to restart. Once your computer has restarted, please shut down your computer as you normally would. Did you get the error message this time?

If you are still getting the error message, I would like to confirm how you upgraded to Ultimate? Did you install a brand new copy? Or did you just upgrade through Microsoft?

Regards. 🙂

You are using SMAD antivirus with older version, try to update it or reinstall the program, your problem will be solved...!
