I agree, I don't like the idea of reverting back either. Realistically it should be a straight forward process but then so should of upgrading in the first place.

I'm more annoyed by the lack of a response from HP. I get the impression that this thread has grown to a point where nobody has the balls to come along and offer a solution of any kind because they don't actually know what the right solution is and don't want to make matters worse.

The change to the sleep option has now stopped working too.

 

I don't want to revert back to 8.1 but am concerned that HP is according to one post on here are recommending it and/or not recommending downloading Windows 10 in the first instance.

 

Ultimately I need to consider the way I use my Laptop and that does require the sleep option, so I can only stick this out a couple more days but want to do what is best for what is only a 7 month old Laptop

Every time you change operating systems, a bunch of changes are being made to your registry.  This creates more and more opportunities for issues or bugs to surface.

 

I'm not necessarily advising against reverting to Windows 8.1; I'm just advising to change operating systems as infrequently as possible.

 

In other words, if you're going to switch back, I'd wait until you're very confident this and any other significant issues you were having with Windows 10 are resolved before upgrading again.

I had posted earier on this thread (6th message from start). Since then i have tried out a few things.

Clean booting after disabling all non-microsoft services is of no use.

 

I did a clean install of windows 10. Windows 10 installation (downloaded via Windows Media creation tool) on 1st August did not provide the latest drivers for all components. So I installed the latest drivers froon HP website (provided for Windows 8.1, They released the updaed drivers for most of the components on July 30). I then manually updated drivers for each component from Device Manager (Right Click - > Update Driver -> Find automatically from the net). This updated my Intel graphics, Audio and a couple other drivers.

I also updated my BIOS with the latest one (released mid July) on HP website (for Windows 8.1).

 

Intel HD graphics driver downloaded from HP website and also from Intel's own website seem to end up with a error message "minimum requirements not met". Running Intel's Driver Utility tool to automatically detect components and download drivers does not seems to work for Windows 10 as it did not detect any component itself. Updating via device manager works just fine.

 

Since then I have experienced no problem till now.

The problem with Synaptics Touchpad settings not persisting after a restart is still there. I have to enable scroll after every restart.

I've just noticed that new drivers have been uploaded to the website as of today, supposedly compatable with my laptop and Windows 10, even though the support assistant isn't showing any available yet. But I'm going to install them now and see how it go's.

HP download site shows wrong dates for drivers if you click details you see when it was brought out.

 

No new BIOS since December last year for my Split x2.

5. Download - install

6. All Sleep and Shutdown options work again. 

 

*to detect your card - try  GPU-Z or find in your computer dxdiag



Tried this suggestion a few days ago it works a little better but still getting the issues.

I am trying to look on the bright side.  At least my laptop works (except when I do not want it to, i.e. when I want it to go to sleep).
