hi I had same problem with sleep and shutdown. restart was ok, so I restart my notebook and when it start to start again i pushed and hold power button for more than 4 second to shutdown.
Now I managed to instal new graphics driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25150/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Production-Drive... manualy. HP will not let you do thant, so you have to download ZIP version of graphics drivers, unpack it, and instal drivers manuali. INF file is located in win64_154004\Graphics\igdlh64.inf.
1. press Win key + X -> Device Manager
2. right click on Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (under display adapters)
3. choice Update drives software
4. browse my computer for driver software
5. let me pick from a list ...
6. from disk
7. locate INF file -> next -> next -> next -> ... -> restart
and I hope it will work for you 😉

I was having the same sleep and shutdown problems on my HP Pavilion 15 after I installed Windows 10. I brought it from Currys so I rang their Know How team. They told me to switch the laptop off then disconnect the charger and remove the battery pack (this unclips and slides off the back). Then – with no power supplies - press the on button for 15 seconds. Apparently this discharges any residual charge. I could then reconnect the charger and restart. This has cured my problems and I get a fast start and correct sleep and switch off functions. I’m reluctant to put the battery back in with the laptop still working.

Last night I installed a new HP driver via the HP upadate tool (something to do with Hard Disk protection) and also Windows found a Cumulative Update (control panel, Updates, Check for updates).
Neither specifically mentioned sleep problems, but with these updates and the updated video driver and HP Button driver (as in my earlier posts) my laptop seems like a happy bunny. No more crashes for a while.
Windows 10 looks great, so much better than Windows 8/8.1, a decent Microsoft OS at last! (hopefully)

Yeah mine was the same straight after the update. It was going to sleep as it should. Infact whenever I've done any driver updates it's been the same. Everything works fine for a few hours, then the problems come back!
My Mail app has stopped working since that update yesterday though, it just crashes when I open it, and I've noticed that when I do a restart, the process seems slightly different. Everything closes down as it should, but then the screen go's black for what seems like a lot longer than it should normally take, but then there's a small noise similar to what you hear when you do a hard shut down, then it all starts back up again. But the whole process seems more like a hard shutdown rather than a restart.
I'm seriously not happy! I refuse to go back to 8.1 because I think that could just bring more problems with it, not only that but I've only just got W10 set up exactly how I want it.

It kind of does suck that something as crucial as this wasn't found in the beta, but nothing can be perfect. It probably doesn't matter to people who have the issue on desktops since desktops are known to always be on, but for laptops, I'm not really sure.Actually, I have found posts dating back to January 2015 describing this exact issue from users running the developers release.

I have been running the insider preview since January, and the problem started for me on July the 24th after microsoft updated the RTM build. Before that my laptop was turning off and going into sleep as it should.

The only thing that can manage to work for me, it shutdown:
First, i click in restart, and after restart and in the session screen, i click in shutdown and only here it's work. I find this solution read one answer in this forum.

Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Chrysler...three frikkin' jokes.
-Microsoft for releasing an operating system that prevent battery operated laptops from shutting down.
-Hewlett Packard for letting Microsoft break their laptops.
-Chrysler for releasing new vehicles that set off the air bags when the doors are slammed too hard.
Oh and I did check the HP support assistant one more time before posting this just to see if there were any messages regarding this issue and as usual...nothing.

Here is an article dated Oct 2014 (!!) regarding the sleep and power issues MOST users (not just HP users) are experiencing. Apparently the next build was to fix the issue but I saw an article dated January 2015 describing the issue as well.

Everyone, I know I have said this before, but the ONLY long-term solution will be to either revert back to 8.1 (I refuse to do that at this point) OR wait until HP/MS releases a fix. Every other solution offered in this forum will NOT resolve the problem. You may think it did, but after a few hours you will find that it did not resolve anything. I too have had mixed results with various changes. None of them I am willing to trust.
So, here is what I am doing in the meantime. Since a part of me dies every time I have to hard boot the laptop I have simply turned off every possible way for the machine to SLEEP or HIBERNATE. When I go to the office, I close the lid, the machine is running, and my commute is less than 30 minutes. At night, I plug it in, leave it running, and go to bed. No reason for BOTH machines (me and the laptop) to lose sleep (ha!).
Since I manage a small network in a local school this is an issue I am actively concerned about. Therefore, I am watching this forum and other sources for a possible resolution. If I see one, I will post here. However, the REAL fix will need to come from HP/MS. My suggestion to those of you who do not want to revert to 8.1 (like me!) is to go back to the default power options (HP Recommended) and turn off all SLEEP and HIBERNATE possibilities (lid, time, etc.).
The other suggestion that may or may not do anything is for as many people to call HP directly. Express your frustration, listen to them apologize (which always annoys me because an apology means you will resolve things), and then STRONGLY tell them that this is an unacceptable situation. Further, do not let them tell you to REVERT. That is also not acceptable. Obviously, the customer support person is probably out of the loop on what HP is officially doing (since most tech support people are reading from a pre-programmed playbook) so be patient but FIRM. The more calls they receive the more likely it will be for them to do something.
