Thank you for that description, however with an HP Envy 360 it proved difficult to follow for a non techie like me.
Having tried many other advised remedies, without success, I had become convinced that simplisticly. if the hardware and original software was for Win 8.1, then why would it be neccessary to update all the drivers for win 10.
All the problems on this machine (and stupidly I chose the main business computer to be the guinea pig !) , started from the moment the upgrade took place.
I couldn't follow your process because although the zipped 9.5 MEI driver was downloaded, I had no idea what to do with it.
So I went to the HP site, ID'd this machine, and looked up it's drivers.
It defaulted to Win 10 drivers, but there was an option of 8.1, which is where I found the 9.5 MEI driver lurking. Downloaded and installed it, and so far it has shut down perfectly for three days.
Sometimes this one is on all day, and still shuts down OK.
The amount of damage that five months of forced shut downs (after the hard drive has turned off) must be of interest to the length of life of some of the hardware, especially when I may have held the button either before the drive had shut down, or occasionally while it was mid upgrade...
There were meny issues after the initial upgrade to Win 10, and I waded through them as a mechanic, with logic and virtually no help from either Windows or HP. They each blamed the other for the problems, so one is on ones own.
One other I put back to the 8.1 driver was the Graphics card, when it repeatedly had adriver problem with WiDi. I got sick of having to reload the Driver, which seemed to get corrupted daily. So far the original seems to be working fine.
I did also turn off the HP automatic upgrades, taking the option of inspecting each before allowing it. No point in going back to where I was before !
One other asside.
This thing is incredibly fast with the old drivers, and it's boot time is about half that of the upgraded drivers.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
It was a team effort.

That should do the trick, but the problem could resurface as a result of Windows automatically re-upgrading you to the faulty v11 of the driver.
Should that happen, reinstall v9 and then try following the section of the steps I posted to use the Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter to block automatic updates to that driver.
Thanks for posting!

Hi guys,
I had the same issue. My computer was not responding after sleeping. I tried several things, from driver updates to modifications in the Bus, from device manager. At the end, the solution was quite simple, just restore the default setting in the Bios, as it is suggested above.
Best,
Mario

How long ago did you attempt this fix? Many users who've adjusted their BIOS settings have found the issue resurfaces.
If that happens to you, I'd recommend following the steps posted here.
Good luck!

I suffered with this problem for almost a year now. I final found a fix and I thought I would post it here for anyone else experiencing the horrors of this shut down problem. I hope this helps!:smileyvery-happy::smileywink::smileyhappy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmGLglXa_WM

Thanks for posting! However, while simply downgrading the MEI driver from the faulty v11 to v9 or v10 will fix the issue temporarily for many users, it could result in the problem resurfacing for most unless they also use the Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter to block Windows from automatically "upgrading" back to v11.
The video you posted is essentially steps 1 and 4 in the solution outlined here. I'd recommend following all steps as closely as possible to assure the issue is resolved for good.

Trust me Dan. I've tried everything and the only fix was to reset to factory settings. Although i liked Windows 10 a tiny bit better than windows 8.1, i am not regretting this decision at all

I don't blame you one bit. The upgrade process -- particularly on many HP models for whatever reason -- has been a complete mess, and there are still several unresolved issues.
Despite all these "fixes," my Envy is still more sluggish in Windows 10 than it ever was in Windows 8.1.
