Same issue for me on a 2 month old HP Envy Touchsmart 17" notebook. Phoned HP and was sent a replacement 120 watt power adaptor - and I still get the same message.
I have updated the BIOS and still get the same message.
Another phone call to HP tomorrow morning - charged at 5p per minute for the pleasure.
Definately NOT a happy customer HP.

I am also using an Envy Dv7 with Windows 8 and getting the powersmart message. In addition to this, I am geting a Whea_uncorrectable error (blue screen of death) on a regular basis. I have sent the computer back to HP 4 times. Got it back on Monday of this week, booted up on Tuesday, in 2 hours another blue screen. I called HP back and they told me I needed to run all of the updates and call back. REALLY??? You have had the computer 4 times, replaced the hard drive and you couldn't be bothered to update Windows and the BIOS??

I have uininstalled Quick Launch but am still getting the message. Beginning to wish I had not bought HP now. Looks like the factory reset suggested by HP Support in my phone call to them this morning might be the next step but sounds a bit drastic.

this happens when your utility supply is lower. It happens to me when i'm charging off the UPS and it doesn't provide the full 220V of the utility. Charging through full 220V utility power works fine for me.

Having the same problem, after owning my i7 quad-core laptop w/16G for about 6 months. HP has already replaced the 90W adapter under warranty, but the problem persists. Today, HP's tech support said the message is an error, and they would be glad to make the message disappear!! Battery stops charging after a few minutes regardless of adapter, and at best will hold the existing charge level but not increase the charge. Battery testing suggests the battery is "normal." Tech support now wants me to send in my laptop! Can ill afford to be without it, and the tech didn't honestly make much sense to me. I've asked to escalate support to a more senior tech, but that may take another 48 hrs. Frustrated and worried at this point. Seems like HP may have outstripped the capability of their smartcharger series, but may not be able to admit or fix it.
