About two months ago a few of my laptop keys stopped working including the space bar. Also the windows live help screen keeps popping up. I read some forums like uninstall drive than re-install to no avail.
I finally used an external keyboard that was working great this past week and I'm not sure what happened but that windows live pop up screen is back to pooping up where I can't type anything in using the external keyboard. Being the device drivers under HID says it is up to date and is working properly do I need a need keyboard? Is it a hard install? Please help. I am missing deadlines and an online keyboard does not cut it. I keep reading about BIOS screen? I can't seem to get it. Please help!! I read some where if an external keyboard works or worked at oneoint then there is no hardware issue. Does that translate to no hardware issue that I need a replacement keyboard? How do I know if it's just the ribbon? No spills or anything and of course in role the 9 key when trying to follow how to try popping it back up. I have replaced the screen before myself so I am sure the keyboard can't be as hard . Please please help!! Thanks in advance

Use Google or Bing to perform a search with " hp pavilion G4-2189 replacement keyboard" as the key words.
Ordering the correct keyboard will require that you do the search locally in your region of the world and ensure that it matches your language.
I do not know where you live or whether or not English is your main language, so I cannot help you with that.
There is a difference between a US keyboard and the UK and German versions.
Videos for replacing the keyboard are on YouTube.

Thank you so much! I posted my own question last night but since I got a response from you I would like to ask you if some keys stopped working on my hp laptop about 2 months ago but an external keyboard works am I correct in saying that I need a keyboard replacement and it's not a hardware problem?
i tried everything listed in the forums. Disable keyboard then reinstall it. What makes me think something is just wrong with the keys is even when I use the external keyboard still have problems with the windows live help popping up which I read is a sticky F1 button. I am in the U.S. I replaced a cracked screen so hoping the laptop won't be as hard. Thank you for replying! If you want to read my full problem listed under a new forum I posted last night under Honestanna please do so!!

HI @Honestanna,
Thank you for your update.
I understand that some keys on your keyboard are not responding but if you connect an external keyboard it work fine. You would like to know it that means it is a hardware issue. Yes it is but you could try cleaning the keyboard to see if that will overcome your difficulty.
HP Notebook PCs - Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 7).
If the above document has not helped then it will most likely need to be replaced. Here is a link to the HP Pavilion g4 Notebook Maintenance and Service Guide. Please note chapter 3, page 15. item 2 for the recommended replacement keyboards for your notebook. It lists the part number and chapter 4 has removal and replacement procedures to guide you.
Here is a link to the HP Parts Store for your convenience.
You can also do a web search with the part number to possibly find other vendors .

Hi Soarkles1,
Wow! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to help me! I followed everything that you said. I feel I need to give you a tip for your time because you are so knowledgeable!
Pit is very hard to find the keyboard part because this is the butterfly SE and HP did have it for way over $100 so what I did was took the keyboard completely out (also to test my skills on being able to replace it). I used a computer dust spray on both the computer and the keyboard as they were apart. When I put it back to get her almost every button worked and then within an hour or so a few started to not work again and I'm getting a slow response even with mouse now at times. If I could find a replacement keyboard even in black for less than $50 I might try that.
i guess my concern is the cheapest I found a white keyboard from a different retailer was $70. I want you opinion if you think it would do the trick or do you think I need a new laptop? While I wait for your response I will email the retailer that had it for $70 to see about there return policy. It didn't look too good in there when I took it apart. I cleaned it the best I could! What do you think? I read on a forum it's easy to transfer your info from one laptop to another (ughhh) not looking forward to it! I can not thank you enough for being so gracious with your time and knowledge! This isn't my actual original forum but in case i have not mentioned it I have the pavilion G4-2169SE (white butterfly laptop). If I found a cheap replacement keyboard (even in black) on Amazon that I could return Iwill probably try that first. Thanks soooooo much and have an amazing day! Looking forward to your opinion!!

Hi @Honestanna,
Thank you for the update.
Whether to spend money on repairing this one or purchasing a new one is a personal option and I can not comment. It is a decidsion you will need to make. When considering a repair also consider your time and effort in replacing the parts, the age of the notebook itself, the cost if something else should fail and the cost of down time to you.
A new notebook would have warranty, so if anything did go wrong repairs should be covered.
Here is the part number for the white butterfly keyboard "Hewlett-Packard 689462-001". I did a web search and they are available from different vendors but availability may be limited by your region or county if outside of the Americas.
I hope this helps with your decision.
Best of Luck!

Hi Sparkles1,
Again thank you for your time! I guess I am most confused because as I mentioned I did take it apart (took 2 minutes) cleaned everything and then when I started it back up all the keys worked for a few. I Utes and then back to the same problem. I have been looking for the white replacement keyboard in U.S. and as I mentioned it's very expensive. So, I ordered a $35 black replacement keyboard. I rather spend $35 before dropping $ 500 on a laptop this one is from 2013 and works quite well. Thanks for your help. I will let you know if it does the trick.!
