Hello @desmon,

1. You should not need additional software for this.  This feature is present in most modern notebook batteries.

2. This is indeed because of the high temperature.

3. It is not recommended to have the notebook continuously active 24/7.  However, the best thing you can do, is make sure that the notebook is not exposed to high temperatures for extended periods of time.

Hello @desmon,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

I read your post about the battery issue, and wanted to assist you!

General battery life tips:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers. Especially Graphics Driver and BIOS. To do this, make sure Windows Update is fresh, and check HP Support Assistant for BIOS updates.
  • Screen brightness has the single biggest impact on battery life. Of course, this is all about personal preference, but a couple clicks down on brightness will often help battery a lot, and might even be a bit more comfortable if you are using for a long time.
  • The apps you are using can make a big difference. Playing video with the optimized Xbox Video app will give better battery life than other players. Internet Explorer gives better battery life than Chrome.  Always helpful to close things you are not using. Things like ads loading on web pages in the background can mess with battery life.

Thanks for the input!

My question is more concern on prolong battery health/lifecycle... i.e. should i charge continuously to 100%? Or maintain at around 50-60% battery range?

Thank you!

Hello @desmon,

Thank you for the quick reply!

50-70% should be sufficient.  You can review the following for more information, if needed:

I hope this helps.

Awesome information!

Some query based on my reading...

Extract1

"Adhering to recommendations by battery cell suppliers and best practices, the notebook does not continue charging the battery once the battery is 100% fully charged. Once the battery is 100% fully charged, the 'terminate charge bit' is set, preventing the battery from charging. The battery does not clear the 'terminate charge bit' until after the fuel gauge falls below 94%. Once the battery fuel gauge falls below 94%, the 'charge bit' is set and the battery does begin charging with the AC adaptor connected to the notebook. If the AC adaptor is disconnected between the levels of 94% to 100%, the 'charge bit' will not be set and the notebook will no longer charge the battery."

Extract2

"Leaving the battery at a high level of charge in a high-temperature environment for extended periods (for example, running a notebook computer in a docking station under a heavy load) will accelerate the loss of capacity."

1. Based on Extract 1, Do Spectre X360 need additional software for this one, i have check device manager, there is only driver from Microsoft.

2. Extract2, by right based on Extract1, the battery shouldnt be charging and should be idle, why would it harm the battery anyway? Is it because of High Temp? What if i place my laptop under the laptop cooling pad? (Assuming i open my laptop 24/7)

3. what is the best method to take care of battery for heavy user, which will leave the laptop for 24/7?

Thank you!
