I just got my Skylake version two weeks ago, and this noise started about two days ago. Around the same time I noticed that the laptop wobbles, as in it will not stand flat on the table (haven't used it on particularly straight surfaces before now, so that might explain why I didn't notice before). Could this be due to some parts being unstable/uneven?

It does seem CPU related as described in this thread, when I put the CPU under load, the fan came on, but the grinding noise was gone.

Disabling the HD 520 did nothing for me.

Has a definite cause/fix been found? I need to use this thing in a very quiet environment quite regularly, and it really bothers me. It does sound like an HDD constantly reading/writing, except I obviously have an SSD.

Sadly, no. The noise we are bothered by does not come from the speakers. It's source is located somewhere on the PCB between the hinges, at the rear of the device. As I read "root cause: audio driver" I was hopeful, but if it solves a crackling noise emanating from the speakers it's unrelated to our issue.

Thanks.

I will pass that on to my internal contacts.
