Thank you so much.  Such a simple solution.  I must have inadvertently tapped the light twice to turn it off.  Again, many thanks.

I followed your instructions here for my mouse pad and it didn't work for me this is what I have

Hp Notebook G62-320us Windows 7 Home Prem.

I have even went to the download driver/software and that didn't work.

Once I have tried both of these solutions, I went into Device Manager and its telling me the device is not being detected.

How do I get it to be detected? Can there be a problem where I have to replace it and how do I know that needs to be done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello bikin,

You’re having a problem with the touch pad not working.

Do a hard reset.
Power off the computer.
Remove the power cable and the battery
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources

This will reset the hardware for the computer.

You might also update the BIOS from HP.com.

Here is a link to the update. You'll need your product number.

If the problem has not been happening for too long you might try a System Restore.

This should take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting any of your files.

Here is a link to a restore.

Before replacing the touch pad you might try a System recovery. This will take the system back to factory settings.

Here is a link to a recovery.

Let me know how everything goes.

Hey Aniz,

I'm sorry you're having this issue. Often the driver is different from Window 7 to Windows 8. I can check to see if a Windows 8 driver version is available for your particular computer. I'll need your product number.

Here are the steps to find your product number.

Hey Anthony82,
Thanks for your suggestions/links, This all happened after using Hp Assistant to do some update on the hardware. I haven't figured out where the trouble happened but Im still looking into it. I do have the touchpad working every now and again but for some reason it likes to disappear on me so I did install a wireless keyboard so that I can keep working on it. Right now its on and working thou. very weird huh. Hp Assistant notified me that my hardware needed to updated and this includes the BIOS. I think this is where my system started acting up thou. I want to make sure the versions are what are on the website first thou. I couldn't imagine what I would do if updating the BIOS and it wouldn't work and didn't have my computer. Guess my life would end 😞 But I would have to get it back up and working for sure.

Hey 2passion8,

I'm sorry you're having an issue with your touchpad. Without knowing exactly which model you have, or what you've already tried, it is hard to know where to begin on giving you troubleshooting steps. There are at least 28 different tm2 notebooks. Press FN + ESC on your keyboard to find your product number so I'll know exactly which set of drivers your computer requires. You can also follow these steps to find your product number.

Have you already tried updating the Synaptics driver? If I knew which product number you have, I could provide you with a direct link to the latest version of both the Synaptics driver and the BIOS.

What exactly is the issue with your touchpad? Is it not responding to touch at all? Do the buttons not work? Does the light next to it stay on or off? Do the touchpad seem to work but the cursor jumps around on the screen? Let me know a little more about the issue.

Here's a link that may help some depending on your exact issue.
