Thanks for getting back to me.

First, I'm going to suggest making sure the Synaptics and the BIOS drivers are up-to-date. The fact that it was working one day and then just stopped, makes me think it might have been an update or lack of an update that may have caused the issue. Checking drivers is a routine first step. It's like making sure a device is plugged in when it won't turn on. You don't want to go on trying other more advanced steps until you've checked that first.

Synaptics Touchpad Driver

BIOS Driver version F.0B

Download and install both of those drivers. Let me know the results when you get a chance please 🙂

Should the computer shut down on its own when u update bios?

Yes, the computer does shut down on its own during the BIOS installation. Were you able to update it? You can check the version currently installed on the computer by

  • Clicking the Start button and typing 'msinfo32'.
  • Click msinfo32.exe and
  • look at the line to the right of BIOS Version/Date.
  • It should say F.0B on that line. If it doesn't, try updating the BIOS again.

I'm sorry the Synaptics file said it was corrupt. Did you try it more than once? You may also be able to get the original touchpad driver from the recovery manager.

  • Click the Start button
  • Type 'recovery'
  • Click HP Recovery Manager
  • From Recovery Manager, Click Reinstall Software/Drivers
  • Search through the list for Synaptics Touchpad Software/Driver, select it and Click Install.
  • You may be prompted to Restart. If so, please restart and test the touchpad afterwards.

The bios version is insyde, 11/22/10. I tried the recovery manager solution, didnt work.

Insyde F."##" ?

There should be a number or letters where the ## are. What is that number?

What part of the Recovery Manager solution did not work?

Were you able to bring up Recovery Manager?

If so, did you see Reinstall Software/Drivers?

If so, did you find Synaptics Touchpad Software/Driver?

If so, did it install properly with no error messages and then you get the same no response issue with the touchpad?

OR did it give you an error message?

If so, what was the error message?

HP Recommended
No error message at all. It was successful. Yes the touch pad still doesnt work. No light, non respondent.

Hello 2passion8,

Your touch pad is not working.

It could be that the touch pad is going out or that a cable has come loose inside the notebook.

Here is a link to your service manual, if you would like to open if the notebook and look inside. Page 56

You could also give HP a call and see if you are still under warranty and if you can send the laptop in for repair.

Here is a link to the phone number.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Hello swaquarh,

You’re not able to install the windows 8 drivers for your laptop.

It may just be that HP does not support the upgrade to windows 8 on your laptop.

Here is a link that will give you some more information on the upgrade.
