This is my first posting so be kind to me
I have discovered that every Windows session seems to result in an Event Viewer record (Event ID 7016) with the description:
The RT2870 AutoInstall Service service has reported an invalid current state 0.
I understand it may be something to do with my Broadband connection, or the Tenda Wireless USB adapter I have to use, but as a non-techie I am not really sure. Nor do I know what function the RT2870 AutoInstall Service is supposed to perform.
Can someone explain how I can deal with the error, please

Thanks TwoPointOh.
Given that the error messages appear not to indicate a serious or critical problem, I will follow up your various suggestions at leisure.
And thanks for the advice and suggestions.

Hi Brian_A, welcome to the HP Forums. I understand that you are concerned with an Event regarding "RT2870 AutoInstall Service". It could be something to do with Ralink/Mediatek - WiFi/Bluetooth drivers, I have not seen such an event error before. Is it causing any negative performance issues?
What is the model or product number of your computer? What version of Windows is installed?
Here are 2 guides to help you find the requested information.

Which Windows operating system am I running?
I look forward to your response.

Hi TwoPointOh
Thanks for helping me with this.
My computer is a HP Pavilion Model WE183AA-ABU s5325uk, running Windows7 (SP1)
I am unaware of any negative performance.
For a WiFi connection I use a Tenda (300Mbps) Wireless USB Adapter - model W326U. This arrangement provides an acceptable Internet service, given that the router is (and has to be) on another floor of the building.
I was oblivious of the Event ID 7016 records (indeed the Event Viewer) until earlier this week, when this was brought to my attention. However it might appear from the Event history to have been occurring at every Windows session, probably over a long time, or even since I first started using the computer.
Hope this helps and and I look forward to your further advice.

Thanks Brian_A. While I do not see any specific troubleshooting for this, if there are no performance issues I don't recommend trying to fix it. If you are on a path of trying 'to figure it out' however, the first thing you can try is Microsoft's automated troubleshooting site: Welcome to the Fix it Solution Center
If that doesn't help, you can try reinstalling your Network drivers. Find your factory installed drivers here:
HP Pavilion Slimline s5325uk Desktop PC Drivers
You can also review the Services that load on startup, to see if you can locate the relevant service: Windows 7 Services - Start or Disable
I hope this gets you started in your journey 🙂
