Thunderbolt 3 Dock 65W
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I have got the 65W Thunderbolt 3 dock. And it works great.

The one issue I have is when I plug in devices in the USB ports which requires a bit of power, like charing the wireless mouse, or connect a phone etc. The dock makes a very annoying high pitched noise. Not loud but due to the frequency its certainly audible.  The frequuency varies as well, so its not stable, making it even more noticable.

The noise varies a bit depending on the ports used. Slightly less noise with the phone using the USB behind with the lightning/charging symbol next to it.

Is it a known / common fault? or should I maybe send it back and another unit? (will take me at least two weeks 😐 )

I have confirmation from another owner that they also have the high pitch noise/sound when using powered USB. Anyone else have the dock and the noise?

Thanks!

Try downloading and installing the latest Firmware for your Dock.

Here is the link to the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 65W Dock.

I believe the only update available at this time is April 16.1.7.0.8 Rev. A Firmware.

Remember to fully power cycle the dock and any attached devices after updating the Dock Firmware.

I think I tried it, but the message was not clear whether it was a success in upgrading.

Btw how can I find the firmware version currently installed?

I think this is an issue with the current thunderbolt 3/usb drivers. I have a Zbook dock with thunderbolt 3 and I have a usb audio interface hooked up via usb to the dock and get the same problem. I will get lags in all of my USB peripherals and this high pitch noise when the lags happen. Initially I thought it was the drivers for my audio interface, but now I am starting to believe that this is an issue with the docks and their drivers. For what its worth, I have my dock on the latest firmware update. This did not resolve anything.

Hello,

I´am also an owner of this thunderbolt 3 dock (150W). I installed all the recent drivers and also updated the firmware for the dock and the annoying pitchy sound is still there, so it´s obviously not a software issue. It´s even worse, when you plug in some device consuming more energy (external drive, charging phone etc.), as someone mentioned before. I also tried switching the adapter and ac inlet, with no result as well.

edit: What does it mean to fully power cycle the dock?

thanks

(I am deeply dissapointed, that such a high end, expensive product has a problem like this. It is not the first time having problems with HP products. I´am starting to be tired from solving them. Since I own the Zbook G3 laptop, I have to face many issues, with almost no response from HP and if any, they say, that their products are fine.)
