In Device manager go into the Ethernet Adapter properties in the Network Adapters. In the Power management tab (if you have one) un-check the option for the adapter to turn off the device to save power. In the Advanced tab scroll through the options and turn off or disable anything that has to do with power management or sleep.

I don't have one of these in front of me right at the moment but that is what I did for the 5 of ours that had this issue. Everything has been working well ever since.

Ok, I have try to disable all the power saving features, but when the ethernet is heavy load turn off, for example, if I try www.speedtest.net the device goes down.

Good Day,

Our Z books with the USB-C G5 docks produced dropped & poor quality Jabber calls upon deployment.  Ran HPIA & updated dock firmware no help.  Our fix was as above Disable the Idle Power Saving inside the Realtek USB GbE Family Controller.  That stopped the dropped calls in Jabber and call quality also improved. Easy Fix!!

Many thanks to all those who worked & found this solution!

Sorry for your problems. This power saving fix doesn't work on all of the docks and it seems to be something in the onboard NIC and not the dock. I noticed the last time I worked with one of these (yesterday) that HP does have a newer firmware update, driver update and BIOS for the computers I have the problem with.  I don't know if that will help your specific situation or not but check the settings for power management/sleep and turn them off if if doesn't.

Just to complete the information, I have try to buy an external usb to lan adapter, same driver Realthek USB Gbe and the problem is the same. Then I think there is conpatibility issue between the chipset and the Notebook or something similar.

Is very annoing have buy a top laptop with his top docking station (not cheaper one) for the same brand and nothing works fine!

I have exactly the same issue with our HP probook 650G8 in combination with usb-c docking...

Update to the last firmware verisons, this solve the problem on LAN Card, but not for the wake up of the monitor.
