Since a couple of weeks I've received a new laptop: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC (E8P97EA).

On this computer I would like to instal Ubuntu (linux) and remove Windows 8.

Herefor I need to be able to enter the BIOS of my computer; however, this seems impossible.

I've tried this in two different way:

1) pressing Esc after I've powered on. This brings me to the Startup Menu. F10 should bring me to my BIOS, but the computer doesn't react, just as the F2, F9 and even the F11 (System Recovery) functions. The function F1; however, does work and brings me to the System Information.

2) Pressing Shift and click on restart the computer -> troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> UEFI Firmware Settings -> Restart. I've read that this will bring me to the BIOS aswell, but not my notebook.

Hopefully someone is able to lead me to my BIOS.

Thanks for your response!

Hello 14jess,

I understand you are having issues getting into your BIOS. I would like to offer my assistance in regards to this issue. Now from what I can see in your post the one thing you have not tried is tapping F1 when the system is booting up. I noticed you tried FN+F1, but that is not the same as just F1. I obtained this information in the HP Support document: BIOS Setup Utility Information and Menu Options.

I hope this helps you get into your BIOS. Thank you for posting this issue on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
