I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC that i am trying to set up virtualbox virtual machines.

I received the above error and a HP support representative told me that if I upgraded my w7 to professional it would work. He was positive so I spent the money and invested the time and upgraded and it did not work.

The next HP support person  told me I should go to the Virtualbox software team to see if it was their problem.

Now I see all of the posts about BIOS issues and know that it is my bad luck to have chosen this system for virtual work.  However there are those who have had some success with getting fixes from HP but I obviously havent been able to reach the right support person.

Can anyonew tell me who that is?

@Adesola_Jolaoso,

I understand that you need to use virtualization on your unit.

Are you trying to use VirtualBox like the original post?  Generally speaking, the only BIOS option required for VirtualBox to work properly is to enable hardware virtualization in the BIOS.  This option is available in the BIOS that have processors which support it.  I do know that the VirtualBox machine settings also has a checkbox for the virtualization, so I would verify that it is also checked there.

If you are using a different virtualization option, please let us know.

Also, what is the product number?

NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.

Hello,

I'm also having problems with VT-x on my HP Pavilion dv7-6b21em.

I have enabled virtualization support in BIOS but both VMWare and SecurAble report that VT-x is not enabled.

Also, the VT-x has been working until few days ago when I sent my laptop to service for cleaning and they seem to have unpluged mobo battery and reset BIOS settings in the process.

Now I have 64bit virtual machines I'm not able to run and I need them for my work.

I have tried disabling and enabling VT-x few times but no luck.

My laptop's details:

Product number: A6J04EA#BED

System board: 1803 10.5A

System BIOS: F.1C

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro Preview 64-bit

Once again, the VT-x has been working until BIOS was reset. No hardware or software changes had been made to computer since then.

I've also checked if there's BIOS update for my laptop but as far as I can see I'm already on newest version.

Thank you in advance on your repsonse,

Aleksandar

I've had the same problem but so far HP support hasn't been able to provide help on this one. I found a tedious workaround that seems to provide relief for a few days, then the system complains again and I have to go through the process again. I found that if I shut down my system, restart the system, disable the VT-x through the BIOS menu, try bringing up the VM in VirtualBox (which fails because VT-x is disabled), shut down the system, restart, enable the VT-x through the BIOS menu, then start the VM in VirtualBox. As I said, it's tedious but no one at HP has been convinced that the problem is real.

This morning started the same as many others, my HP laptop wouldn't run a VM because "VT-x is not available" even thought it's been turned on in the BIOS menu. Even the workaround failed to temporarily fix the problem. I've had my HP Envy dv6 for a long time and this problem has never been treated seriously. Could someone at HP look into this? When I inquired about this early on I got no answers but it sounds like I'm not the only person affected.

HI, sorry to hear that you are getting the error Vt-x is not available.  I have done some research on this issue and I have found that it is possible the memory on your virtual machine is to big and it would need to be reduced. For example, if you have 4GB in your virtual machine I suggest you decrease it 3096MB. This should get rid of the error.  Here is a NONE HP supported YouTube video link that will assist you with managing the Virtual memory.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWCVhk5gTps

Hope this helps with the issue.

my vm pc uses 3 GB of ram - my host pc (envy i5 cpu) has 12 gb of ram. The vm is still reporting an issue with the intel cpu not having the vt-x enabled. Any other suggestions? I know how to access it in the DELL bios. Should I return this HP PC and get a Dell?

Some additional background info - I have another HP with an AMD-A8 process and it works with out the configuration since AMD enables this feature by default. So it's an INTEL defaul to have it disable, we simply need to know how HP provides a way to talk to the CPU via the bios.
