my laptop is a HP CG60-243CL (Windows Vista home premium) and its about 7 months old. Whenever i would put my battery charger into my laptop it says "plugged in, not charging" this is when it's on. Most particularly it has a blinking LED light on the charging icon (Lightning bolt icon). However, when i charge it when it's put on shutdown/hibernate the LED light (The lightning bolt icon) has a solid white light. So therefore it is charging. Does anyone know the reason why my laptop is acting this way?

Sometimes it is necessary to do a hard reset to erase all of the information in the temporary memory and regain functionality of your PC when it stops responding. For example, doing a hard reset is helpful if your keyboard quits responding, you cannot get your PC to come out of hibernation or sleep mode, or if a software program causes the PC to freeze or the battery stops charging.

The hard reset will not delete saved files on the hard drive.
Performing a hard reset
To perform a hard reset, follow the steps below.
1-Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
2-Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
3-Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.
NOTE: Holding down the power button while the computer is turned off drains any residual charge in the capacitors.
4-Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
5-Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

I had a similar problem and phoned the help desk.  I was talked through a reset process which worked.  However, ever since I get a pop up box with a warning that I need a higher capacity AC adapter for full performance.  I contacted the help desk again and they told me it is a known problem without a fix!  The pop up comes up anywhere on the screen and is a real pain that I can''t get rid of.  I am using the power supply and adapter that came with the laptop.

I signed up just to report on this problem and solution!

Basic backstory:

My HP HDX 16 is just shy of two years old now.  I have it plugged in well over 99% of the time, and while I don't completely shut it down every day, I always sleep it when I'm away and usually hibernate overnight.  Nonetheless, a system tray note came up that said I should replace the battery.

If on battery power, the battery will drain very quickly, and may drop below the minimum required voltage to run the comp. even when the system tray icon still says there should be 30% or more charge left.  When this happens, of course, the computer instantly turns off.  I've probably had this happen three or four times now.  When I put it back on AC power, I can instantly turn it back on.  The last time or two this has happened has not been because I was intentionally operating on battery, but in fact I had the computer on my lap and, through just a little friction on my leg, the power cord had come out of the socket no more than an eighth of an inch.  This is enough to disconnect it electrically, but it still hangs in there so I didn't even notice.

The Problem and Solution!

It happened earlier tonight, and when I plugged it back in the power button did nothing!  I could not turn on the computer, all of the front indicator lights (such as the lighting bolt) were dark.  The light next to the power cord (indicating that it was recieving power from the wall) was on, as it should be.  The essence of this problem is that your RAM is too full for the computer to be able to start, so you need to clear it.  The procedure stated in the earlier post DID WORK.  Unplug from AC, remove battery, hold power button down for 20 seconds (I did it for over 40 to be really safe).  This action discharges all circuits.  Put your battery back in, plug the power cord back in, hit the power button and she should fire right up - mine did!

hello, thanks for this forum, I landed up while googling the sameproblem with my HP HDX 16 that is two years old, I followed by "pressing the power button for 20 seconds after removing battery and ac adaptor", still not working. I purchased a new battery and ac adaptor( though I know that with earlier battery and ac adaptor, I can see the power light is on right nest to pin means power is coming till that point), but still not working, any other suggestions, thanks in advance!

I'm having the same problem, 2 year old HP Mini, battery not charging. Tried the reset, still didn't work, any other suggestions?  When plugged into charger, llight switches from red to white regularly but message 'battery charging' but 0%.

Couldn't find the battery replacement on HP NZ website using this part number.  Not good service.

What next?

Hello

I have a hp laptop which is under HP pavillion g series. The model is g4-1016dx. I am unable to switch in the laptop despite it being plugged into the AC outlet. It has a blinking LED light (I think may be the charging icon) near the charging outlet. When the power button is pressed, nothing happens, the laptop can't be switched on. When I put in the battery, with the AC outlet plugged in, the charging icon does not even blinks or light up, just unlighted, the laptop still can't be switched on. When the power button is pressed, it flashes one time but laptop still does not switch on. Does anyone know what is happening to my laptop? How can I switch on my laptop?

I have tried the hard reset solution, it does not work at all. It still remains in the state as described above. Can somebody help me???

Just FYI, previously, I think my laptop battery has already outlived its livespan even though I seldom use it(laptop is always plugged into AC outlet while using). The screen when I start up my computer always shows a black screen stating the power is low or something to that degree. Even if battery is plugged in, if the AC outlet has been removed, the laptop automatically 'force shuts' itself, instantly turned off.

Hey RebeccaNPE,

I'm sorry you're running into this no power issue. The light next to where the AC Adapter plugs in will let you know if the AC Adapter is OK or not.

g4 1000 ac light.jpg

When that light is blinking it indicates an error (as we might have surmised already 😉 ). Would you happen to have another AC Adapter of the same wattage that you could try on that computer? Also try any available AC Adapter with a different wall outlet (preferably not through a surge protector/power strip)

Is there any chance the computer could have been connected directly to a wall outlet during a lightening storm around the time this issue started?

Do the Caps/Num Lock lights blink at all?
