Answer:

After purchasing 3 new batteries and 2 new battery charging power adapters over the period of more that 9 months that I struggled with this problem, finally my HP Pavillion Laptop died. It refused ever to re-start again. I took it to a local HP-accredited service centre here in Champaign Illinios. When the guy pulled my laptop apart he was able to show me that the fault was on the motherboard in the circuit that controls battery charging.

But the even worse news was that the motherboard had shorted out. This caused both my disks to fail. After several days of extremely hard work re-building disk sectors the technition was able to recover about 70% of my information.

Luckily I had backups of all my work-related e-mails and Office documents. But I lost all of my music on iTunes, and about 50% of my 40,000 photos.

I did have an image backup of my system, which I had created using Norton's Backup software. But it refuses to restore to any other PC besides my old dead HP Pavillion.

I have now purchased an Apple MacBook Pro.

And my backup strategy is now to copy everything to two different places. I copy everything to iCloud. I copy all Office Documents to my Office 365 storage at Microsoft. And I copy all the photos I have left and any new music I've acquired to a separate 4 terabyte hard disk on our household LAN.

To all the readers of this thread my advice is to revise your backup strategy and implement regular backups immediately.

Sooner or later your laptop is going to die.

Cheers,

Bruce from Canberra, OZ

Hi Everyone...After a few months of off-again-on-again research, and countless advice with direction (thank you all), a solution to my battery issue has been solved. The solution was easy from the beginning. I contaced Batteries-Plus and they located the "correct" battery for my HP Envy dv7. The walked me through the troubleshooting process and stated the issue "IS" defintely the battery. Lord and behold, it was. They ordered the battery and after very little time had passed, they inserted the battery and we're up and running again with a smile. (Whew!) Allow me to give a shout out to the "man upstairs" and my wife. Why? Because I listened to them both and went to Batteries-Plus. I hope you all find the solution(s) to your battery issues especially if you continue to have laptop battery problems such as plugged-in, not charging.  Again, I'd like to thank you all for assisting me over this period of time. Keep smiling!
