I have had this Pavilion 15 for 1 week, it came straight from HP. I have Bose speakers plugged in to my audio port and when I play music the volume fluctuates up and down. The internal speakers also have the same problem. I have tried all admin fixes and due to the number of other posts of people suffering this problem, it appears to be a software issue. The Realtek audio program is RTKVHD64.sys 6.0.1.7195.

Which exact download do I need to fix this issue?

Thank you

Just fixed the problem with the help of another forum thread on this site dealing with the same problem.

From the other thread...

1) Open Device Manager

2) Scoll down to 'Sound, video and game controllers'

3) Right click on the audio device listed and click on 'Properties'

4) Click on the 'Driver' tab

5) Select 'Update Driver...'

6) In the window that opens, click on 'Browse my computer for driver software'

7) In the window that opens, click on 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

😎 From the list of available drivers Select 'High Definition Audio Device'  (The generic Microsoft Windows Driver)

This completely removes the OEM driver AND Beats Audio 'Enhancements'

I'm now enjoying clear, crisp, clean, high fidelity music. I listen using iTunes (free) that has a build-in equalizer, also verified it works great now with Windows Media Player.

Good Luck!!!

This worked great for me, and if anyone else tries it, let us know how it works (or doesn't work) for you.

I have exactly the same problem. I couldn´t find any fixes.

Yeah, it is ok on tunes that have mostly lower voices (mens) and not a lot of high freq tones (as in no hihat cymbals) but in complex music the fluctuations are VERY annoying. It is almost as if the program is trying to equalize or compensate and is not doing a very good job. I have another laptop, the HPG60, and the sound is AMAZING. THIS SUCKS HP! When will a fix or patch be created? I have reinstalled the recommended Realtek program and it made no difference.

PLEASE HP FIX THIS SOON.

I have the same problem here I'm afraid.  Just got the HP Pavilion 15 on sale from Future Shop, and after installing the numerous hardware and software updates, it performs flawlessly, all except for the fluctuating audio.  I listen only through headphones and it makes listening virtually impossible.

From other forums I see that part of the properties of the Realtek audio device included "Enhancements", and in there you could defeat a feature that acted as an attenuater in order to keep the volume at a constant level, meaning it boosts the volume during quiet passages, and lowers the volume during loud passages.  This kills dynamic range, and is in my opinion a terrible idea on a device such as a laptop computer.

The problem is really noticeable when that software feature can't respond fast enough to rapid changes in a song's dynamics, and this I believe, is the cause of this fluctuating audio problem.

If it were defeatable we'd be ok I think.  Hopefully HP or Realtek addresses this problem soon, as many of us use our laptops for the majority of our music listening.

Let's hope!

That worked great! Thanks so much, no more annoying fading in and out.

Thanks, but I found another fix in another forum, an updated driver to the Realtek, 6.0.1.7135 that seems also to bo the job: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?allow_punctuation=true&filter=labels%2Clo...

Though maybe yours is better, maybe I´ll try.

I tried that one, didn't work. I seem to be still having a little fluctuation, not as bad but even so.... This laptop sound is not nearly as good as my 4 year old unit. I would sent it back and revert to the old one if it had more RAM and was faster. One of the main things I do is listent to music. The itunes equalizer helps but it is still no comparison.

I tried using the updated driver 6.0.1.7358 advised in another thread. This gave some improvement but wasn't perfect.

Have just tried the solution which gets rid of the OEM driver and Beats Audio.....success at last. Beautiful clear sound. Am left wondering how Beats Audio is rated so highly. It's quite clearly not audio the artist intended us to hear.
