Had some problems with my lap top freezing and then going to a blue screen error message.  Told me that I did not have a hard drive or an operating system.  Usually just turning off and resting made everything OK.  Now I get the error message that my hard drive has failed the SMART test and is in danger of crashing -- I have backed up everything but now what do I need to do?

The SMART imminent failure for Hard drive is an indication that your Hard drive is on verge of failure or might fail anytime depending on usage.

Run HP Diagnostics for HDD and provide failure code of Hard drive test to HP Technical Support so that its replaced for you free of cost within warranty period of your notebook.

Kindly check the instructions over here in order to run the test for your hard drive

Hi,

The only solution to this problem is to replace the Hard Drive.

If your notebook is under warranty, contact HP to have this replaced.

If your notebook is out of warranty and you would like a guide on how to replace this yourself, please post back with the full Model No. or Part No. of your notebook.  Also include the operating system ( the version that came with the notebook ).

Have you created your Recovery Discs?

Regards,

I have backed up both the system image and a recovery disk.  Bought my lap top in January so I am under warranty.  Just seems like even though I am getting the failure message, everything is still working OK, but for how long?

Hi,

It's impossible to say exactly how long the HDD will last after you first receive this error message - it may go for another month or 2, or fail completely within hours.  The only thing that is certain is that drive will physically fail sooner or later and as you are under warranty, it makes sense to get this replaced now - if there's one thing you can gaurantee, is that it will fail when you least want it to!!

You can contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired under warranty using the links below.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
