My daughter's computer is a HP Pavilion DV6-6104nr. I've updated the BIOS and other recommended software but I get an error code on startup that says that my system is halted because the wireless module installed is not supported. I have to unplug the wireless to get the computer to start.
Here's the kicker... it's the card HP put in the computer! Everything worked fine until two days ago... then BAM! The Ralink RT5390 that came in the beast is not supported.
I called tech support and was told that my warranty expired 3 months ago. He can easily help me but I'll have to extend my warranty (hmmmmm... coincidental???). However, if I need a new card, my extension does not cover hardware.
Any idea what I need to do?

Install the older Bios from your System Page, and the WLAN works,
Your System Page
You have Windows 7 or 8 installed?

I have Windows 7 home premium 64 bit installed and I'm logged in as administrator but when I try to download and run the update (even in SafeMode) it gives me an error message. If I'm in Safe Mode it says Cannot run InsydeFlash - please close all other applications - if using Windows 7 use administrator. If I'm not in Safe Mode, it says it did not install correctly.

Just to make sure I did this right.... I took out the battery and unplugged everything. Then I held down the power button for 15 or more seconds. I put the battery back in and started the computer. Should things be different? I did it a couple times and everything is the same. Everything is up to date when I try to update it. And all my information is still there. I guess i thought it should go back to factory settings or something. It even restored my pages when I opened Chrome.

Hello brtny82
If I were you I would first go to my HP Pavilion dv6-6104nr Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers page and ensure that you have the BIO updated. After you ensure your BIOS is updated you should start with the Chipset Drivers and ensure that ALL drivers and software are up to date.
If the above steps do not resolve your issue I would recommend that you backup your computer by following the HP Support document Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7). Once your files are backed up I would recommend you follow the HP Support document Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) and reset your computer back to factory settings. When you have completed the recovery you should ensure that you run ALL Windows Updates and HP Updates. You can put your backed up files back by following the HP Support document Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7).
I hope this resolves your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
