I found the solution. Annoying, stupid and making to f**** everyone in HP and Microsoft!
So, there is a lot of people who said that close and open screen helps. (True, but not every time. That's why isnt helping everyone) Many people said that Going to settings (search on metro mode typing wireless) turn of the Airplane mode and turn on under neeth the Wi-Fi. But that also didn't help many people cuz it is gray like it was with me also.
There is a solution. COMBINE EVERY F****** THING.
Step1: Install this Wireless button option
Step2: Go and check if the Wi-Fi **bleep** on metro settings is still grey... if is not continiue to next step
Step3: Close your screen, and open it again... and go to step 2 this works
Step4: F*** Microsoft and HP
THANK YOU.

I had the same issue too but found a workaround. Enter your BIOS settings by pressing F10 after switching the laptop on. Then press F9 to reset everything to default settings. Now save and exit. This worked for me. But Now you can whenever you want you can toggle Wifi on/off

Have you downloaded latest Bios or not
Do this :
- Check for Windows update using dongle / data card/ any other source
- Download for Windows Update
- Check Flag Messages for any messages like Download wireless button driver for windows 8
- Download and install Wireless button driver
- Restart the machine and windows update will configure windows 8
- Go to HP Support websites and download the latest Bios setup
- Also do download .net framework 3.5 and 4 and install them respectively
- Install the bios and restart the machine
- While Starting the machine press F10 for bios setup
- Press F9 for loading factory setup
- Save and Exit
- Machine restarts (Standard Recommended)
Go to windows 8 charms menu – Settings- Change PC settings – Wireless – toggle Airplane off and toggle Wi-Fi on ( Hope you pressed the Wi-Fi switch ON)

Hi guys
This is how i solved the issue.
I have a pavilion dv6-6b30ee
After upgrading to Win8 the Wifi button stopped working.
First i went to the driver download page for my laptop and choose win7 instead of win8 as an operating system,
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5206...
then i scrolled down to the Bios entry and instead of choosing the latest driver, i clicked on "Previous Versions Available".
It took me to this page:
I choose entry F.19, and installed it, then after it restarted i went to the bios and i reset all the settings back to default.
finally i went back to the driver download page of my laptop, choose win8 as an operating system, then scrolled down to the driver for the button, installed it and restarted . Now its working fine.
if you want the links for the downloads here they are:
Bios F.19: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57001-57500/sp57474.exe
Wifi button: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59835.exe
Hope that helps.
Cheers

Hello. Please refer to this thread and we can troubleshoot the issue on the post you started: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/takecover/m-p/3020723#M44182

That thread has nothing to do with what we are experiencing. Seeing how many people are having issues with this, this needs to be elevated to someone that is more than just a guy that responds to forums. I'm guessing there's only 1% or less of people having problems look to HP forums for solutions. So that means there are litterally THOUSANDS of people having an issue with their HP computer and someone who can't read a forum or provide a solution is stopping the real solution comming to light.

AMD A6 with Windows 8. I just got this in August. I'm having the same issue. The airplane mode is off but light still orange.
I tried the sleep trick, it didn't work for me. And I don't know what you're talking about BIOS. I have no network connection there for I can't download an updated driver online.
Can someone please help ASAP?
