I can't believe these HP people will end up making me buy an external USB wireless adapter because their frikin' F12 Button doesnt work. $20 they owe me!

Is this going to fix it? I mean an external USB wifi adapet can make the wifi work again?

i have the same problem..after my upgrade to windows 8 pro on my hp pavilion dv6 7040tx f12 stopped working for wifi and bluetooth and started working for airplane mode...its fine but it has become impossible for me to atleast manually avtivate wifi and bluetooth from new window in win8 pro..i had a long chat with the hp support assistant..but even he couldnt resolve the issue..he says there might be a problem in the driver or the settings in windows 8 pro..whatever..he asked me 1 to 2 business days of time to resolve the issue and contact me..is there any other way i can proceed..???

yeah..f12 controls the airplane mode..but wifi adn bluetooth in the pc settings are still grayed out...that means we cant avtivate or deavtivate them..

Well, if the HP guy comes up with a solution, please share it with us. Most likely he will tell you that HP doesnt support Windows 8 and that you have to revert to Windows 7.

Unfortunately, your idea is beautiful but useless, if the wireless button is greyed out.

Tried upgrading driver, bios, removed the device from dev. manager, enabled and disabled power management for Atheros AR9285, installed all the windows updates, the button works and enables and disables Airplane mode, but wireless remains greyed out. In charms it says it is disabled. In network adapters it says, it is enabled but disabled via switch or fn f12... fn f12 enables or disables airplane, but wireless remains not connected...

after reading endless net forums of others with the same problem, I just don't feel that stupid anymore...

actually when the suppport assistant guided me through some instructions like proceeding to dry boot and updating drivers wifi abd bluetooth worked well..it could detect wireless devices and everything as usual..but after a restart of the deice everything was gone..they were again grayed out..they work temporarily when we install drivers many a times..it works for sometine and then after a restart everything is gone..i am eagerly waiting for the reply from the hp support assistant..lets see what changes hp brings in the updated drivers..
