When trying to access BIOS, are you pressing F10 about once a second or pressing and holding it?

I did find some Windows 8 drivers here. It seems to cover most of the important categories including switchable graphics.

There may not be a Windows 8 driver for every possible hardware configuration out there.

I hit F10 once a second and no way I can get into the BIOS.

That indicates there is a deeper issue then. That is a big problem if you cannot get into BIOS assuming the F10 key is functioning. I would test the F10 functionality in a different program once you are in Windows.

Also, try reflashing the BIOS using this.

Thanks this worked for me

So, any genius from HP came up with a new driver for older computers for Windows 8? Is it so difficult? It cost too much money for HP to pay a developer to do this?

Yes I've had this same annoying problem a few times too, with my Compaq Presario CQ43

What seems to work is:

Plug in the power source (so the battery is charging), plug in an ethernet cable (so there's internet connection).

Now restart the computer.

Once the desktop screen has loaded again, press the wireless button, and now it should (magically!) be able to turn from orange to blue.

what a nightmare! but best of luck to everyone ...
