Has anyone tried replacing the slider switch? I'm out of warranty (DV6000) and I have lived with this problem for a few months now and have been using the wired either net port.
Just the other day it just started working again. Nothing unusual happened. No updates nor changes to any software. It just started working. I shut it down (not sleep or hibernate) and when booted up the next day I was back to the same problem.
I want to short out or bypass the switch and see if that fixes it. Dose anyone have any links to a disassembly document or web page?

I repair computers and laptops. I have fought through this battle with three laptops, one v6000 Compaq and DV6000 HP and DV9000 HP. Bios installs, driver reinstalls will only take up time and prove worthless. My opinion is that the wireless card is dead. If it was not, you would be asked for the driver. Don't fight it. Buy a NEW card with the same part number. Be careful not to go to Ebay and buy a cheap card. It could be a collection of junk that someone is trying to make a fast buck with. Once you install the new card, it should work. Keep in mind that the DV series went through a recall that expired last year. Is it a bad motherboard or a bad wireless card that is causing the motherboard to fail, who knows? After all it is made in China.............. lhcoll

I am also one of the frustrated customers. Their netbooks the TX 1000 series suffers from the same issues. I have updated the bios, updated the driver and even replace the device. No help. The device is not detected by Vista on the system. Maybe XP would work I will try to install it and see.

I have a DV9000 which I had sent in under that warranty for the same problem. HP sent me the box and everything. IT IS A HARDWARE "Motherboard" ISSUE. Well thats what they told me.
Now after they sent it back with the new motherboard and bezel which was broken also and recalled, they fixed both. I was so happy for that. Now a few months later. The WIFI issue is back again. HP said they could troubleshoot the issue over the phone for 50 bucks or I could send it in for $350 and they would fix it. Im like, well why didnt you fix it when you said you was at first. She was rude this time around and I will just have to get a usb wifi. They already know that they put out a faulty series of computers and it seems like a great scam to get more money. I am pissed because they should have fixed it the first time. See my point.. NEVER WILL I BUY HP AGAIN.

Ok just yesterday the internal wifi started working again. I pulled out the usb wifi and was able to surf for hours. Then I shutdown the laptop. The next morning it boots up and is not working again.
This has got to be the weirdest PC issue I have ever had to deal with.
The only thing I had done to the laptop was try to get the built in web cam to work again.
In the windows device manager I had a Simplo web cam listed as a USB device not an imaging device. I uninstalled it with the delete drivers box checked. Then did a check for hardware changes. A Xerox imaging device showed up. I uninstalled that and again checked for hardware changes. Now I have as an imaging device a USB 2.0 web cam.
I did not notice the blue light on until a while later. The laptop was left on and I had stepped out for a bit. When I cam back into the room the blue light was brightly lit. Unfortunately, as stated in my opening, it has again stopped working. The Web cam is still working. So was it just a coincident and not related? Or is there some conflict with the USB devices and the internal Wifi?

I have worked on several laptops with this problem. (I work with a quite a few HP laptops and desktops)
So far I'm 100% for resolving this solution.
I just did another one today. It was a HP Pavilion 64xx series.
1. Remove the battery and unplug the power.
2. On the bottom of the computer remove the cover that houses the wireless card. It's a small card with 2 leads that's screwed to the motherboard. There is also a motherboard battery stored in there as well. (At least there has been on the last few)
3. Disconnect the Battery and very carefully remove the network card.
4. With the battery and network card removed... Boot up your computer.
5. Shut the computer down after it has completely boot up.
6. Reconnect the wireless card and battery and replace cover and battery.
7. Boot system back up.
So far this has worked everytime.
NOTE: I'm very good about keeping my BIOS and Firwares up to date. This may be a factor. (Something to consider doing before the above process)
I don't know why this works or what causes the problem in the first place.Chances are it's some kind of conflict with OS updates and 3rd party software.
I hope this helps.

The blue light switch to orange on my laptop as well the other night. I purchased this at Costco so I called their Concierge Services the next day and the problem was resolved by:
1) Disconnecting the power cord.
2) Removing the battery from the laptop.
3) Holding down the power switch for 30 + seconds.
4) Replacing the battery.
5) Restart.
The light was blue upon boot up.
The explanation was that by holding down the power switch hardware memory was cleared.
Hope this works for you all.
