I have a new Zbook F2P73UT with lighted keyboard. I cannot find any way to set the length of time the keypad remains lighted after a button push. When I am using my CAD system, I am mousing a lot and not touching the keys often and the keypad constantly times out  after about 10 seconds and goes dark. I have to touch something to get it lit again so I can find the "delete" key (for example) without hitting a different key accidentally. This is because I often use the computer in semi-darkness and the contrast of the key identifier color to the key background color is much lower when the keyboard light is off. It is difficult for my older eyes to make out in the dark, so I'll swipe the touch pad or guess at the key, but it is very irritating.

I can turn the keyboard light on and off with Fn F11, but cannot find any way to adjust the timeout on the keyboard light, ideally to be anywhere between always off and always lit. 5 minutes would probably work just fine for my purposes but 10 seconds is just too fast. My wife's iMac Air is always lit. Maybe if mousing would turn on the keyboard lighting, that would also be fine.

Assuming there is currently no way to set the keyboard lighting time using HP-supplied BIOS and utilitites, is there an app out there or other software add-on or patch that would allow me to accomplish this?

Thanks!

Hi again, Chris--

Did you recieve an answer to this?  I love my Zbook, but do not like the timeout setting on the keyboard.  Did you figure out how to adjust it?  I cannot find anything on this topic anywhere.  Good luck with your resolution.

hey guys,

I was wondering the same thing, so I tried booting in the bios and there i found the solution.

First shut down your laptop.

Then mash the "delete"button upon booting(right after pressing the power button).

Choose BIOS by pressing the F10 key on your keyboard.

Select the advanced tab on the top right corner.

Choose the option under device configuration( I'm sorry couldn't remember what the button said).

When you scroll down you find a selection for the keyboard backlight timeout, which I set to never.

I hope I could have been of any help to you.

Please let me know whether it worked or not.

Actually the default is 15 seconds. I had the same problem

boot into the BIOS (F10)

Go to Advanced > Built-In device Options

scrool to the bottom

Choose from:

5 secs.

15 secs.

30 secs.

1 min.

5 mins.

Never

Enjoy!
