It is tedious, I know but you have to study this thing to get the answers. The top Intel processor is a Intel™ Core® i7-4802MQ 2.70-GHz processor (1600-MHz FSB, 6.0-MB L3 cache, quad core, 47 W)

But there are two different motherboards with the QM87 and HM87 chipset respectively. The difference between these chipsets is a bit complicated but in this case HP uses the QM87 boards to support Quad Core CPUs and the HM87 for dual core. So in order to find out what it is possible for you to do with your machine you have to figure out which chipset is on your motherboard.

I know if you look up the i7-4940mx it says it is compatible with either chipset but HP will not have set it up to use all the features the chipset can handle.

CPU-Z or Speccy should be able to provide the answer.

I think I already said that on paper the Quad Core is supported by the HM87 chipset but that does not mean it will work on the HP motherboard.
