Hi ,

I have an Envy15 j000eb laptop with the Intel 4600 & Nvidea GT740 video card.  when trying to connect an external monitor to the HDMI port (a Pavillion 23Xi..the laptop screen just goes blank (blue color) and the monitor remains black.  The monitor menu also doesn't detect an output signal on its HDMI port.

Now, after disconnecting the monitor, the laptop screen remains blank, even after a full reboot.

OS is windows 8.1.

any ideas?

Regards,

Frank

Hi Friet,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 15-j000eb Notebook and getting a black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices and HDMI cables, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore. Here is a document on how to connect a monitor. Some setting in this document might help.

 Hope this is helpful.

Thanks.

Hi Mrs. Tenter,

It is solved, but not in the way you describe down here.

It is actually (it should be) a known bug when performing an upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 that the 'new' video drivers that come with the installation are bugged or corrupted.

I had to uninstall the 'new' drivers and re-install the 'old' drivers from the HP support site.  That solved the issues.

Hope this info can help someone else..

Kind Regards,

Frank

P.S. : i also work for HP , but the Envy is my private/home PC
