Hi,

That board 501266-001 is listed as compatible only for CQ 60 models:

UMA system board, GL40 (for Presario CQ60 computer models only; includes built-in
modem and replacement thermal material) 501266-001

However, the board 494282-001 is listed in both manuals for CQ 50 and also CQ 60 laptops. I think that it might work but have a look at the service guide for CQ 50 laptop yourself:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01572022.pdf

I mean that you can definitely use the 494282-001 board on your Compaq 50 laptop. I think that 501266-001 board doesn't have HDMI port and a card reader (Digital media slot??).

the 501266-001 was the one the cq50 i bought had in it i did send it in for repair once. i was curious if the 494282-001 is capable of handling this processor as a upgrade Intel SLGFE Core 2 Duo Mobile P8700 Laptop CPU 2.53GHz 1066MHz 3MB Processor.

If the CPU is not listed it doesn't mean it won't work. Each new BIOS update might add some hardware support and also fixes bugs and other issues so even non listed components may work. That P8700 was launched in 4Q 2008 and that's why it's not listed as it was probably launched after the manual was created. It uses the same socket/chipset (as the supported P8600) and the only difference is speed so the cpu should be working well on the laptop. Go and try a 64bit system but you need to buy a licence. The original product key for 32bit system won't work for a 64bit OS.

For the wifi problem. There is listed an Intel WifiLink 5100 dual band/channel (2x2) chip as Atheros AR9280 part number 480985-001. There are listed 2 Atheros AR9280 chips already so it's definitely an error. I would recommend to get that chip as I have had it and it was flawless.
