You will need to contact HP's support for your area. They should be able to access the ordering system to get an idea of what happened in the order. I know in the U.S., the cheapest shipping option can take 1-2 weeks for a worst case scenario. Again, the procedures of what happened does not appear to be an actual HP repair/service process. They should probably be aware of what transpired as to verify that repairs are happening as they should.

halfast,
Try this document from Symantec. It addresses the exact error you are receiving. It does have a link to additional support documents should it not work, but it should do the trick.
Let me know what happens.

Purchased Norton 360 antivirous software. Tried to install on my laptop but nothing happens. When the CD is inserted it starts and runs but the screen showing how to install the software never appears.
Before purchasing Norton 360 I purchased a McAfee antivirous package which had to be downloaded from their website. I could not get the download to complete. I kept getting a message saying there was a problem with my internet connection or the McAfee download server was unavailable. My connection checked out ok. I tried over a 4 day period to download and got the same message every time. This is went I purchased the Norton software which included a cd.
I now am beginning to think the problem is in my laptop's operating system.

What is the exact model of your notebook? What is the product number?0
NOTE: Do not provide the serial number.
Do you get any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?

Did you contact McAfee to verify that there were no issues on their side? Since you paid for it, I would contact them for support.
Did you try using a different browser? I have had similar experiences where using a different browser worked flawlessly.
It sounds like auto play is not coming up for the disk. Go Start>Computer with the CD loaded. Does the Norton CD show for the CD drive? If so, what happens when you right-click it and select open?

Looking at the original post, that does not sound like the official process of an HP service center. It doesn't seem likely that the version of Windows 7 would have been changed from the original (Windows 7 Home Basic 64bit) and sent back in a non-functioning order.
I know it wasn't shipped with recovery disks, but did you make the recovery disks at any point? When you go to Start>Computer, is there a recovery drive listed? If the recovery partition is still there, then it may be possible to recover it back to the original factory conditions. I recommend doing this since it did not come back to you in the state it should have been. Any issue present will need to be resolved before upgrading to Windows 8 as it is more than likely that the issue will follow through to Windows 8.

okay sir that clarified me my problem but still problem cannot be solved, answering to your queries-
my laptop was deffective from factory only (said by service centre), and my hard disk was replaced and a new hard disk was given and without any drivers or my original windows 7 home basic 62 bit version, from then on i cannot install any driver, its working as a normal pc right now.
to avoid using pirated version of windows which they gave me in my laptop i purchased original windows 8 and then tried to install drivers but still the same result, i ordered a recovery disk set from calling up hp but its been a week since then and nothing was answered back.

I did what you said to try and it worked; almost. Norton downloaded but said I had a security problem with my outgoing and incoming email. It tried to fix the problem but was unable to do so. I got an error message that read 8505, 129. Any suggestions?
The information you asked for is as follows: Notebook is Pavilion g series. Model is Pavilion g7-1260us.

I did what the document said to do but when I ran the live update it failed. I then ran Norton autofix and it failed giving me an error found: 8921, 251. I ran Norton autofix again to repair internet connectivity resulting in failure. Any suggestions about error 8921, 251?

Here here is a document from Symantec regarding that error. It seems that the standard procedure is to run Live Update, but the document at the bottom goes into a little more in depth steps. Try that document and the one linked at the bottom of it.
This is definitely and issue with the Norton software. If you still have support from Symantec, I would contact them provided the above document does not work.
Let me know what happens.
