hi all
ive got two problems id like help with
1) i want to change my email address for logging onto this laptop but cant find where to do it.
ive found the page where i can change everything but email???
2) i was playing with 'live mail' and added an @outlook account alias.
live mail started being unhappy straight away, i can see the irony.
anyway, i ended up removing the outlook account and went with yahoo, however, now everytime i open live mail the

1) add a new user account. then delete your old email account:

hi visruth,
thanks for your prompt reply.
1) looks long and tedious, but doable. i hate backing up stuff, i always end up loosing something behind the couch, or forgeting where it goes when i try putting it back into a folder.
2) the link you gave me is actually the link i used to get in this mess, im sure theres a not so smiley face button somewhere on my computer for this situation.
but i might wait on issue 2) till im the new me administrator.
thanks again for your advice visruth.

im not going to have time to do this now.
if somebody happens across this post in the between time,
instead of backing up my user files, can i just put them straight into the new
me administrator folders. or am i missing the point of backing them up?
thanks
youre still there visruth. you were replying while i was worrying and thinking and re-replying.
im going to work now, but yes, ill let you know how i go with 1)
2) needs more input from me to get to the bottom of it.

Hi,
After creating a new administrator Microsoft account with your email, just copy all the files you need to salvage from the old email user account (must be in C:\Users\(user-name) profile folder and subfolders) to your current desktop.
After that just delete the old email user account
That's it.

hi
can i just get an opinion off someone, anyone, visruth?
visruth's got it right with the dumb, and here comes some more of it.
i eventually got another admin account set up that microsoft would let me use.
now ive started copying C:\Users\(user-name) to desktop, i have show hidden folders ticked
so im copying destop folder, appdata, .swt. there's over 68,000 files 240GBs
i dont get the ''profile folder and subfolders)'' that visruth mentioned.
does he mean i should only be copying the basic folders like documents, music and pictures?
some more of the dumb
i had already added my new yahoo email (2) as an alias to my windows id at microsoft last night,(but it wont let me switch it to primary, nor the @outlook(3) email alias)
and when i added that yahoo email as a new account on my computer and tried switching users, it wont accept my windows id password or the yahoo password.
so ive made a new temporary email (4) account which is an now my computers admin acc.
now im thinking that means my next step is, when the folder finishes copying, to double check my new admin account works at microsoft, (im scared it wont) delete my old email (1) and see if it will let me use the yahoo (2) as my primary.
then i have to go through it all again and make the yahoo my new admin on the computer and get rid of email account (4)
which leads to my Question
and the dumb goes on....
to get my computer back as it was with nothing changed but my email login
with (4) as my main admin login and yahoo (2) as my new admin.
do i just cut the contents of C:\Users\(user-name) from yahoo (2) paste the 68,000 files from the thenced deleted (1) into the gap?
delete the temporary (4) account and make (2) yahoo my new computer login account.
because if thats all there is to it, ive got it covered guys. just let me at it.
if not, please let me know. i cant help feeling ive missed something.
on the other other plus plus side.
i fixed the problem with the live mail login. pheew.
thanks

hi visruth,
i dont know what you were worried about
turns out it was easy, ive lost the usual amount of stuff, which i expected.
after i deleted the bigpond account from my computer, for some reason the computer login would let me setup the yahoo account and its kept an amazing amount of my old stuff
so i didnt have to do half the stuff from my last post.
FYI. you can only change primary accounts at microsoft twice in one week
which seems to be where i messed up. i didnt know that.
when i set up the yahoo email i think i set it as default to see what happens, then switched back to bigpond. turns out thats why i couldnt set either new email as my default. but will be able to next week.
anyway, i noticed its almost your birthday. Happy second birthday for next week.
2 years and over 6000 posts, you must have a really crap computer that breaks down a lot. ive been here 5 years and only needed help for 20 posts
which leads to. thankyou very much visruth for all your help, especially the nifty picture tutorial links
all the best
