I have recently did a clean install of win7 from xp and since then have had to reset the boot sequence. After some searching I realized that the cmos was not retaining it settings for date/time, etc. After booting through the recovery process the win7 os works find. I have downloaded the manual but have not been able to positively locate the cmos battery under the keyboard. My laptop is a HP Pavilion zv5000 or zv5260us. I would like some direction as to its location, if it is soldered in and is replaceable?
Also, I would like to upgrade the primary RAM from 256 to 1GB. The secondary was already running 1GB. Is this a possible upgrade?
Any help would be appreciated.

I actually used to own a very close model to that and can vouch that it can use 2 gigs of DDR 800 SO-DIMM (first gen DDR). One slot is under a door on ther bottom and the other is under the keyboard which is not too hard to remove. Here's the Manual:
I see nothing in the Manual about the RTC battery or its location which leads me to believe it is soldered to the motherboard.

Thanks for the information. That confirmed what I had thought. Since my last posting I have located the cmos battery, under the key board, but tucked under the mount plate for the mother board. It looks like it will require a complete disassemble to replace. What I have found on the internet is that this particular battery is soldered to the mother board but is replaceable.
Is there a way to confirm the actual charge condition of the battery without removing?
