Hi,
There are many differences depending on the product (ie model) which is a combination of many options (CPU, RAM, video card, display ...) . You can config 2 machines which are very close and you can't see which one is which. Basically the p machines are for portable and lighter, the w machines are for workstation and could be heavier. Here are 2 datasheets:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/product_pdfs/HP_EliteBook_8570p_datasheet.pdf
http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/workstations/images/datasheet_8570w.pdf
Hope this helps.

Hi:
Below is the link to the quickspecs for both PC's
8570p:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14304_na/14304_na.pdf
8570w:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14315_na/14315_na.pdf
My non-technical analysis is this:
The 8570p is lighter and can only be upgraded to 16 GB of memory and offers different graphics than the 8570w.
The 8570w is a mobile workstation rather than a laptop. It can take up to 32 GB of memory with a quad core processor, and has more robust graphics. You pay for this in that the notebook is about a pound heavier.
Compare the above spec links and you can determine which model is better suited for your needs.

Normally a workstation offers better graphics, is a more powerful PC, and has a higher wattage power supply to handle the demands of the more robust hardware.
It normally has more ports than a notebook has.
It is more like a desktop PC than a notebook as far as its capabilities.
You can also expect to pay more for the workstation.

HP! I am so dissapointed that the HP8570P I purchased does not have a keyboard back light. Now I think I have found that the 8570w does have a back light on the keyboard.
Am I able to upgrade the keyboard on my 8570P to the keyboard used in the 8570w?
Please please let me know asap!
Thanks!
