I'm having the same problem with mine! I can't get the USB connector thingie to fit inside either of the USB ports on the right side. Really sucks! I just bought my laptop yesterday and might have to exchange it at the store.

I just purchased this laptop and I have the same issue. Could not get anything in at first. After a little effort most of my thumb drives fit, but not all usb devices/cables. I will be taking this back tomorrow and permanently removing HP from my potential purchase list.

i hope this isn't a shadow of a bigger problem that will surface right when my warranty ends. i've had this laptop for 2 weeks now and so far no major issues. i think i'm gonna have to get this reolved though before it turns into something ugly.
i just hate having to o al the shopping all over again, especially after the great price i got it for.

Well, I went to Office Depot with the laptop on hand and they were able to insert USB devices into the port. They told me that the ports were just tight and needed to be loosen up. I'm able to insert my keyboard USB plug and card reader now. I do notice that it's much easier than before.

I too was able to insert a couple of different usb devices into those ports. They are tight, but they did loosen up somewhat. The issue, I still can't plug my wireless HP USB mouse receiver into the ports. I tried and it's not happening. The folks at Staples are welcome to try tomorrow when I return it, but I doubt they'll have much luck.

to illustrate how much friction is involved, i'll tell you i ripped the casing off my flash drive trying to remove it from one of the right side sockets.
i have noticed the right side sockets are getting slightlyeasier to use, but still, not up to what i was expecting regarding HP quality (i have a compaq nc6000 which, aside from the resoldering of the chip i had to do, has survived my work as a mechanic, and my wife, and a toddler)

Just an update. Went through 6 different laptops between Staples and Office Depot. One of the techs at Office depot pushed the lower tabs inside of the connector (the obvious source of the issue) down slightly on one of the laptops, and I was able to plug my mouse receiver into those ports. I ended up purchasing this laptop, as Office Depot matched Staples price. This is only because my daughter REALLY wanted this laptop and we could not find a suitable replacement. I doubt I'll make another HP purchase.
My observations, the snug fit of those ports varied somewhat from laptop to laptop. They ranged from barely able to plug something in to nothing at all plugs in. The laptop I retured to Staples had VERY tight USB ports on the right side. In fact, the folks at Staples couldn't even plug one of their own USB flash drives into the ports. Some of their other laptops were slightly better, but none of them would accept my HP mouse receiver. They were on the phone with HP when I left the store.
