Hi All
This notebook does not power on. have tried without battery attached and after holding power button down for at least one minute for full discharge. The LED blinks 8 times (red / orange) above the power adaptor connection - no other lights. This happens whether I plug in the adaptor or attach the battery on its own.
Is the main bord at fault or is there another problem - why does the led blink and does anyone know why it blinks EIGHT times?
Thanks in advance

By chance do you have another charger to try?

Hi Cloud_Strider
Yes, I have plugged in the charger without the battery attached - same result.
I also get the same result when I replace just the battery
(with the charger unplugged at the time) and it also blinks 8 times.
I have tried another known working charger (I'm currently using it on another notebook) - same result.
I have also tried these same connection proccedures after holding down
the power button (without battery and without charger connected) for at least one minute - can't remember the knowledge details but I picked this point from the net.
I think it may require a main board replacement.
I am also looking to find out why the notebook power LED blinks 8 times. Isn't there some kind of technical spec as to what the number of blinks means - eg 3 blinks = memory problem etc?

Hardware tests cause the caps lock or num lock keys to blink instead.
This document from HP indicates that a continuously blinking charging port is an insufficient power issue and a different outlet should be tried.
Did the different adapter that was used have the same power ratings? This is usually listed on the label of the adapter.
If trying a different outlet does not work, then I recommend contacting HP for a warranty service if it is under warranty.
With this being a commercial notebook model, I am not entirely certain what support it is under. I do know that commerical products typically get a different warranty period than a consumer notebook.
