hp envy 13
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have an HP Envy 13 with Quad HD+ (3200 x 1800) display. I'd like to be able to occassionally connect my notebook to a monitor. The notebook has the following ports available:

1 HDMI
1 headphone/microphone combo
3 USB 3.0 (1 HP USB Boost)

Is there a compatible monitor that I can connect my notebook to that would allow it to display correctly in the high resolution that it supports?

Thanks,

Emma

Hi @emzyme20,

Thank you for your clarification.

If  your notebook is currently running  at a higher resolution, then it would support resolution up and including your current setting.

Here is a link to a  forum post from superuser that should help you with your decision.  Using external monitor and screen resolution?.  Please note number 4.  Any ads on the page are not endorsed by HP.

To have the higher resolution on the external monitor it also needs to support that resolution.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

I grasp that you would like to connect an external monitor that will support the same resolution as the notebook display.

I am assuming that you are running Windows 8 as you did not state your operating system.

Hi @Sparkles1

Thanks for the reply. I did put my product and OS in the original post. Just to clarify it's an HP Envy 13 notebook running the QHD+ display and the operating system is Windows 10.

The link you put in your post is not valid, it goes to a page not found.

I know how to connect a monitor to a notebook, you just ensure that I have a cable that goes from hdmi to the hdmi port on the monitor. My question was more about the QHD display of the notebook. Most monitors support upto 1920x1080 resolution but my notebook runs in a much higher resolution. My question just asked if you could just buy any decent monitor or would you have to buy a specialist monitor that also supports QHD display resolutions?

e.g.

http://www.ebuyer.com/671563-samsung-s34e790c-34-curved-ultrawide-qhd-monitor-ls34e790cns-en?gclid=C...

This monitor is also a QHD monitor that supports up to 3440 x 1440 resolution.

What would happen to my display if I were to plug it into a standard monitor, would the icons go super small because it doesn't understand the resolution that is running?

Thanks for the help,

Emma
