Hi @lifelaf

Welcome to the HP Community! I see that you are having a problem getting the your recovery USB to work on the HP Mini. Have you already Configured the Boot Order so that USB is first on the list? Are you getting an error message at all? I am assuming you trying to recovery Windows 7 is that correct?

Hi i have configored the boot order so that usb comes first. i do not get any error message at all. id does not even indicate there is a usb flash drive available when i click on f9 to set the boot option. but when i connect a usb DVDROM drive it recognises it.

Thanks 20141105_004317.jpg

Hi lifelaf,

If you can see the USB DVD ROM then I imagine that it is the USB recovery key that you created. Since it won't boot or recognize the USB key then I would suggest that you contact HP regarding ordering either a Recovery USB or Recovery Disks since it is recognizing the external optical drive. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

Hi

thanks for the advice. i called hp and asked if i could get a recovery disk for my hp mini and i was told that they did not have any in stock and i was recomended a certified hp service provider best2serve.com and they too said they do not have. i am really frustrated. i bought a dvd rom drive with the intention of just erasing it and doing a clean installation and voiding the warranty but it still wont format. it says windows cannot format due to changes in recently installed hard device.

aslo i finally go a drive which the laptop recognizes at startup and the hp mie restore image creator cannot write files to the drive. it tells me access to physical drive denied.

Hi lifelaf,

At this point I would recommend calling HP directly as there is something on here with the hardware. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.
