I would consider swapping the adapter out for another brand and model.

Take a look at the Intel offerings for improved reliability and higher bandwidth.

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235

Intel wireless AC7260

Take a look at what NewEgg has

There isn't much that we haven't tried.

Please identify the installed wifi adapter.

What exactly do you mean by wifi quick launch?

Do you mean that the wifi button does not enable the wifi adapter?

The issue could be a couple of possibilities.

Read the following thread and check to see f it applies to your situatuation as well.

Try installing the folowing  HP Ralink 3290 Windows 7 driver softpaq.

Also try the following driver softpaq from Mediatek, which now owns Ralink. This driver is from 2015 and is the most current.

How about entering the BIOS setup. Check the system configurationm tab to ensure it is enabled as seen in the following image. Specifically the wireless button state and WLAN device.

Disable WOL unless you need that, and enable automatic LAN\WLAN switching.

Have you tested the network card  yet?

Press the power button and then immediately tap the F2 key. In the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu choose components and at the next menu choose wireless and perform the test.

Install the latest version 5.9.0.0. of the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI firmware.

That was a surprise.

Install the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3-in-1 USB Key version to a blank 4gb usb flashgdrive and use it instead.

The installer  is the last download on the following HP web document.

Take a read of the thread at the following URL.

You can also try the Windows 8 wireless button driver. It is applicable to your notebook.
