I can't open any powerpoint files even though I have PowerPoint2010 on my notebook.  i can open presentations that I created in that program but not if I try to open them from MyDocuments or the internet.

Hello,

@mitly85, I see that you're having an issue opening Powerpoint files. I have a couple questions before we get going if that's OK.

Are you reciveing an type of error messages when you try to open the files?

Is it even giving you the option to open the files in the program?

Could you please give a little more information about the issue.

If you have any more questions please let me know.

Hi,

I simply get the message that 'powerpoint has stopped working.' It will open powerpoint normally and if I open off a USB.

The problem event name is : Bex

  Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll

Does that mean anything to you?

It will give the option to repair, but this does nothing

I have a couple of more questions for you.

Has PowerPoint worked for you before?

How long has it been giving you this issue?

What OS do you have?

Well I literally installed it 2 weeks ago, I think.

Word works perfectly, all the downloads from the same source in word format open.

OS: Windows 8

I am planning to take my laptop to some IT people at university...see if they can help....this is a nightmare! 😞

OK, if you can try this:

Go to Start -> Computer -> C-Drive -> Program Files ->MS Office -> Office 14 -> Right click onpowerpnt.exe-> Properties.>    Go to Compatibility tab -> Disable “Run this program in compatibility mode for” option -> Apply -> OK.

Now try opening PowerPoint 2010 again.

If this doesn't work I suggest doing a System Restore. A System Restore automatically creates restore points, a memory of the system files and settings on the computer at a particular point in time. In this case you will be able to set the notebook back to a time when the program was working for you.

If you have any more questions let me know.

Hey,

Ok so I get to the disable compatibility part...but this is already unchecked...

I have a feeling restoring may not help...and this software has never opened links that I have downloaded...argh!

Thank you for all your help so far though ...muchos appreciatos!

OK, let me know if you do the system restore.
