I know the problem has something to do with the IDT High Definition Audio driver but can't seem to get it to work consistently.  After Christmas, I got the Integrated Microphone to work but still was not able to get it to work with Skype.   Recently tried it again, and now back to internal microphone not working again.  Spent over 4 hours with customer support with no luck. Best advice regarding this issue, save your time and spend the money - buy a headset.  There are several threads about the microphone not working and none of them have a solution.

I've just spent a couple of hours trying to get the internal mic of my HP Pavillon dv7 to work, without success. Now I'm reading this thread, realizing that I did everything possible to get rid of the problem. I'm very very disappointed to see HP not able to offer a solution as it seems to be a problem common to all dv7 devices.

My conclusion on that is: never ever HP again.

hello all,

I am have the solution for the webcam. The cord that connects it doesnt hold into the port well. You need to pop off the plastic that surrounds your screen at the top where the webcam is and to the right of the camera when looking directly at your screen you will see where it plugs in. just push it back in and it will work. Also know that it will keep coming loose and get disconnected from time to time. I use my drivers license or a credit card and just pop the top portion off and that is sufficient enough to make it happen.

On a different note, has anyone figured out how to make this piece of a mic to start working? Im still stuck on that issue.

thanks,

Schwasted

I popped off the pastic but I don't see where or what to plug in.  do you push down from the top of the screen onto something?

When you pop off the plastic look at where the camera is. Directly to the right of that there is a white plug that goes into a black one. You will know its the right one by the 5 wires that are on the bottom part of the white plug in this order (black white red orange blue green). It wont look like its out but its just loose. if you pull up your YouCam program while you do it, it should register and pop up on the screen and ask if you would like to use the located camera.

I hope that helps you out better. Sorry for taking so long to respond.

Holy Cow!  That fixed both my webcam AND my internal microphone.  You're a genius!  How much do I owe you? 🙂

Just a pat on the back

Also know that its not a permanent fix, it will get loose again and again and again... so you will have to do it every now and then to get them to turn back on.

Wow. This fixed my microphone-only problems. Thank you SO MUCH. I think I may try a little dot of hot glue on the connector if this keeps happening...

Alas, all good things come to an end.  It seems that my microphone and webcam are not working again.  I have pushed in the plug as far as I can, and no luck.
