OK, here is the system board you're looking for. You can either look for one to purchase online using this product #

506124-001 or call HP@8004746836 and see what options they have to replace or repair the notebook.

Also, thanks for the KUDOS! 🙂

Hello I have a dv7-1285dx computer, I am encountering this same problem that the laptop turns on, but the screen doesn't and the caps lock and number lock buttons are flashing what does this mean?

I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you can offer on this

I have the same problem on mine.  My wireless lite comes on, the numbers lite comes on and stays on and the cap lite flashes at least ten times, then the computer turns off and restarts and does the same thing.  I tried a hard restart.  I removed the battery, unplug it from power, press the start button for 15 secs, plug the power back in but left the battery out.  I got no errors on the screen but the cap lite started flashing which it did not do before.   I am thinking it is a bios problem, but, how do I upgrade the bios when I can see nothing.

It turned on this morning but the screen started flashing on and off and I noticed that my puppy had chewed the power cord, so I unplugged that and it has not come on since then.  The bottom where the fan is does feel hot to the touch and I have a cooler underneath the lap top.  I have a DV7 running windows 7

Hello @Donaldbjr,

When turning your laptop on it doesn’t fully boot, is that correct? I will try to help you with this issue.

Here is a document I would like you to have a look at. Do the lights flash like any of the ones mentioned in the document?

The cap light blinks forevery.  Once I turn it on.  It is the only light blinking.  I can hear the fan start up and what sounds like the hard drive.  I have done the hard reset and did not get any error messages on the screen.  Cleaned out the ducts with condensed air.  It was working well, so the memorary is not a problem.  The light is on where I plug in the ac so it is getting power.   I am thinking Bios but have no way to find out which one I need or how to do it since I cannot see the screen.

Thank you for the help.

Don

Donaldlbjr,

Honestly sounds like it could be a multitude of things.  Do you know if you're still under warranty? If you aren’t sure insert your computer information into this link to confirm.

nope it is not under warrenty.  It is a really good computer that I like.  I will take it to a computer doctor next week if I cannot figure out what is wrong with it.  Have way to many programs and photos on it not to get it fixed.
