Hey @kyraa ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you're unable to open any files or documents on your Pavilion 15 notebook.
Can you please clarify which notebook you have and the installed operating system? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?
Please backup your important files to an external device as soon as possible. Typically when files don't open it means there is no program to open that file type, the file is corrupted, the disk drive is failing and cannot read the file, or there is an infection of sorts.
- Try right clicking on the files and opening them with something other than the default application.
- Try using Safe Mode to see if something is getting in the way: Booting into safe mode (Windows 7) or Booting into safe mode (Windows 😎.
- Install Malwarebytes Free and run a full scan: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
- Run an HDD test to check the HDD for failures: Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 😎 or Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista).
Let me know the results of these tests.
