Hi all, i know there has been talk about this issue on the threads, but i cannot gleem any helpful info for my situation.
Please advise,
I have an HP DV9700 Notebook running Windows Vista SP1 and 32bit OS.
I am trying to play videos from my machine through to my LCD tv.
My tv is a Visio 1080p FullHD HDMI compatible 40" or close
No matter what i play a video from on my machine i can't get the audio to come through on my TV.
The audio play fine on my machine.
I've read the threads and tried what i could figure out too no avail. It is past me at this point.
My taskbar has only a: Realtek HD audio manager icon
When i go to device manager for Display adapters all i have is NVIDEA Geforce 8600M GS device, no others
No matter what i go into i cannot see any options or settings talking about HDMI anywhere?
I've left the HDMI pluged in and restarted, still nothing
There are no settings on the TV for HDMI or external speakers. Home theater or computer folks at stores not any use either.
Is it true that HDMI should be both audio and video. I should'nt need a seperate audio cable right!?
Please help.
been working on this way too long for such a seemingly simple problem...

Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that my problem has been fixed.
I know, hit myself in the head, i should have had a ...
Sometimes the simplest things are overlooked (i should know better).
I was not choosing RealTek Digital Output as the "Default" speaker to use. So it was always using the internal Realtek HD Audio speakers.
I just did not realize i needed to choose "set as default" in order to the outside speakers to work.
After doing this all my problems were solved.
Everything works just fine now.
Sorry for sounding like a newbie & thanks for your patience.

Hi, sorry to hear that you are having issue connecting your computer to your T.V. To answer your questions, NO you do not need to run a separate cable to get audio on to the T.V. Running the HDMI cable is all you need. I am going to give you a document with detailed instructions on how to connect the computer to the T.V. just in case you missed a step or a setting. Please click on the link and follow the instructions. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01369231
If this does NOT resolve the issue, please feel free to write back and I will be happy to do more research for you on this issue.
Thank you for your patience

Hi, I tried your sugested article very carefully. None of the info worked for me.
I can play a video on my computer; i.e. realplayer, etc and get the video to play on the computer and/or tv, but audio will only play on my computer no matter where i look for settings nothing seems to work.
I have re-read the TV users guide (useless i know) and there is no useful info. It says i should be able t connect computer to TV.
Next, question: since my computer has a HDMI port on it does that really mean i can connect to TV and play video via realplayer or equivelant? or do i have to use old fashioned RGB and audio connectors??
I believe if you have HDMI than you CAN do this. But i find no supporting info describing this physical process to get it working...
I am not missing any settings on my TV. I'm gonna try to contact Vision support on this as well.
When computer is powered off, TV turned on and input selected to HDMI, then power on computer.
All i see in device manage for displays is my NVidea. Should i see a setting for the HDtv seperately.
Also, under properties for the display when i play with toggling the screen, etc. , it does appear to have my TV option as a VO47LFHDTV30A
It doesn't matter whether or not i push the main screen to the TV or share screens, i get the same results.
I must be missing something very simple.
Do i have to choose a specific HDMI signal format for this to work? Option are 720P HDTV, 576P EDTV, 480P EDTV These are under NVideo control settings.
I can't think of anything alse.
Thanks,

I just talked to support for Vizio and they inform me that the tv should be plug and play in a sense. We are not missing any additional tv settings for the HDMI ports or the feature for this to work. They claim the problem is related to the computer sending the signal to the tv somehow. or telling the signal to go to the tv. Looking the the Nvidea control panel i see no specific option/settings for sending audio to tv or anyother place. Plese advise.

As far as the settings go on the TV, Once the HDMI cable is connected you should be able to toggle to the proper HDMi port that is in use on the TV. For example, I have a 55" flat panel tv with 2 HDMI ports and two usb ports and when I want to select one of the HDMI's I simply use the remote and go threw the menu and select my desired port. Now just so you know I did have a issue with a low grade cable that I purchased at a discount store. Once I bought a more expensive heavy duty cable it did connect and the issue has not returned at all.
I suggest that you try a different cable and if that does NOT resolve the issue, please let me know.
Thanks again

I cant get sound through the hdmi to the tv anymore. the AMD Vision Engine Control wont let me choose the Samsung TV as the default audio device - its greyed out. PC speakers work. The windows sound control only sees the IDT Pc speakers, not the AMD High Definition Digital Audio display device. Do i need to reinstall something? Help!
