Hello,

Have you seen this post: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/Elitebook-8560p-Crucial-M4-256GB-results-normal/t...

Somebody changed his Bios to older version F.20 and that surprisingly enables Sata 6.0 mode. Laptop model is different, but Bios revision is exacly the same.

Regards.

My achievement was to replace the motherboard with a motherboard for Elitebook 8570p. HP's policy is very bad. I do not think with their current vision and management much good will come from them, so on point, to your question: I advice you to avoid them, as much as you can, or at least keep in mind who you are dealing with.

Furthrmore, if you try tweaking it, you will see how much room it is for improvement, as if you wonder why it is made so poorly in some aspects. Did they make mistakes? and then, if you still search, you will find obstacles, brakes, security checks, ("believe me, it's for your own protection"). Just saying some things that are not written on their logo, but you will find them written very small on the back, obstructed by the glowing light of their billboard

The F.20 BIOS did not work for me for sata3, neither F.21, F.22, and others.

PS. As I was writing this, my HP branded Intel wifi adapter, 3 times more expensive that the regular not HP approoved one, which apparently has 2 faulty connector pins that were not designed in the correct order (sarcasm, for those who do not know the details),  disconected from the router, as described in a 2 or three year old threads of intel 6300 dissconecting issue, both on HP and Intel.

And there are more other limitations, not by the hardware itself, stating their identity and purpose

Yeah.  It is very bad. But when you are buying business model you would expect something more. If not excelent product, at least good support. I will go for Dell next time. Most of my coleagues use them and nobody ever complains.

From other hand I've read that diffrence between Sata 3 and 6 from practical point of view is not that big. Alyosa2001 have you notice any difference in daily/work use when you switched from 3 to 6?

Yes, it is, and quite noticeable. im my case it almost doubled the speed, but anyway a SSD on sata 2 is still very good

I had no problems getting my new SSD working in SATA 3 mode on a HP ProBook 6560b, see proof below:

  • Laptop: HP ProBook 6560b
  • BIOS version: F.50 REV. A
  • OS: MS Windows 7 Professional SP1 (x64)
  • SSD: Crucial MX100 256 GB

Maybe new Bios version: F.50 REV. A upgrade makes the difference, it's relatively new.

Anonymous2014 could you please tell us, if you achive Sata 3 mode before or after upgrading your Bios?

So it WAS possible, by modifying BIOS, to enable SATA3, after all. Anyway, I can also post a picture with a probook 6560b achieving sata3, however it has a different motherboard... and screen... and keyboard 🙂

In conclusion, I believe this thread can be markes as solved, if anyone else can confirm it, as I no longer have an original 6560b computer.

And to add my personal opinion, advice, as a user of their product, I think it is wise to say, as long as they have the current leadership, management, and overall leading direction and atitude, to COMPLETELY AVOID HP (unless they change every single management authority, or do something good about it)

Untill then, it is now october 6th 2014, it took them this much for a 2012/2011? computer to add a functionality to their product, that was SUPPORTED by the components

So, if you like to buy rebranded components at over their tripple price, supporting their BIOS policy of overagressive fencings ( and whitelisting ), the cooling system suitable for a smartphone ( I wouldn't dare say a tablet), a whole system of support center and posting on the forums marked as "personal opinions of the authors", in other words absolutely NO useful comunications between a representative and a user/clien. Absolutely NONE so far, NOTHING usefull from them, anything but hidden and very sophisticated locking mechanisms, I repeat, nothing ever came from their direct comunication, which was pretty nonexistent, meaning no one with the decision authority ever took the responsability to talk to the customers. If you want all theese, then you can have it as it is. If not, then not. Just not.

The best laptop I've ever used, the worst castration and fencings

While it might be working for some SSDs, my 840 Evo 250GB is still not being recognised under F.50 Rev A.

I'll try my Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB when I have the opportunity.

I didn't test it with the old (factory) bios version, I upgraded the bios to the latest version before I installed the SSD.

The only thing I did after upgrading the bios was loading all the settings back to default values and I changed the 'max SATA speed' setting to 6 Gbs.

The Kingston with F.50 Rev A set to 6Gbps gives me results close to the 840 Pro 3Gbps
