I didn't test it with the old (factory) bios version, I upgraded the bios to the latest version before I installed the SSD.

The only thing I did after upgrading the bios was loading all the settings back to default values and I changed the 'max SATA speed' setting to 6 Gbs.

Hy!

I have the latest BIOS version on my ProBook 6550b - Version:F.50 (8 Jul 2014), but I didn't find any option to change SATA Speed.

Could you post any printscreen of your BIOS settings or a short HowTo for accessing that settings?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for my late reply. Maybe you already figured it out by yourself but you can find it under System Configuration -> Device Configurations -> Max SATA Speed

Thanks for info.

I checked again in my BIOS config but I don't have that setting, maybe is BIOS version different from yours. Below are some specs of my Probook

According the information you provided, it looks like you have a ProBook 6550b en not a ProBook 6560b. The HP ProBook 6550b has an Intel HM57 Chipset which simply doesn't support SATA III with speeds up to 6Gb/s.

@Anonymous2014

I am using the exact same HW configuration as you do. HP 6560b with SSD crucial mx100 256GB and Firmware F50 but still my SSD is not beeing recognized by the BIOS.

I have tried with 3GB and 6GB SATA speed and also have resetet the BIOS to default. Nothing seems to pursuade the Laptop to recognize the SSD.

Is there anything else you have done ? E.g. Partioning the SSD before using it etc.

update:

I have partioned and formatted the SSD before putting it into the 6560b. Now the SSD is at least getting detected and I was able to install Windows. But only with setting SATA speed to 3GB in the BIOS. I was hoping to achieve 6GB ......

That's strange...

I remember one thing I also did but didn't mention here (because I thought it didn't matter but maybe it does...) and that was to shutdown the laptop completely  after loading (and saving) the bios defaults, security defaults etc. After that I turned the laptop back on, went back into the bios and set the 3GB/s option to 6GB/s.

Hi,

I have tried that as well, as it was mentioned earlier in this thread by the HP support. Unfortunately it really does not make any difference :indifferent:

At least it is working with 3 GB right now, hopefully there will be either a BIOS or a SSD Firmware update in the future which will resolve this issue

Hi everybody,

meanwhile there are several months gone and I will asked about some news about this thread. I'm standing in front of the same problem (6560b und brand new Samsung 850 pro) and still the SSD is working only in 3GB/s speed. When I switch the speed setting in BIOS to 6GB/s than the SSD is recognized but it can't be formatted nor I can do something else usefull with this piece of hardware.

I can also hope that HP is fixing this issue.

Sincerely

Stefan

Hi guys, I was having the same issue as you. My Intel SSD 330 was not recognized by my HP Pavilion G6. I tried to update Bios, but still not recognized.

So this is what I did: Luckily, I had Windows 8.1 on a bootable USB drive. I went in to Bios and booted the computer from the USB. The Windows 8 setup started and actually recognized the SSD drive and installed Windows perfectly on the harddrive. The computer is now starting up as normal and running ultra fast with no issues at all!

Maybe this is something you can try out.

To hiseth Please run HWINFO32\64 -> Bus -> PCI Bus #0 -> Sata ahci controller -> Sata Port #0 or Sata port #1 -> current interface speed - what it shows for you?
