"Unable to open BIOS signature file" error

HP Recommended
HP Spectre x360 - 13-4103dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to update my BIOS, but I keep getting an update error when it enters the UEFI update sequence. Specifically, "Unable to open BIOS signature file". Both updating through HP Support Assistant or directly downloading through the HP website result in this error.

HP Support Assistant information:
HP Support Assistant: 8.2.8.25
Patch: 8.2.9.0
Framework: 12.4.18.7
Configuration files: 8.0.6213.1716

Current Processor/BIOS information:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2592 MHz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors
BIOS Version/Date: American Megatrends Inc. F.2C, 2015/10/20
SMBIOS Version: 2.8

HP Support Assistant tries to update with this BIOS file:
sp74985 for F.32AP1

Direct download from site gives me this BIOS file:
sp75959 for F.35 Rev.A (Jun 26, 2016)

Both result in:
"Unable to open BIOS signature file" upon entering the UEFI update after booting.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Just in case it's relevant:
My antivirus is Spybot Search & Destroy 2, and I have set up Windows' default paths for 'My Documents' 'My Pictures' and similar common folders to be placed in folders under my Box account for cloud storage.

Hi @Tensilae,

Thanks for becoming a member of the HP Support Forums. I understand you are having an issue with doing the BIOS update. I will be glad to help you.

Can you confirm which BIOS is on your computer?  BIOS update will not install if the same or older.

If you are not at F.35 Rev A, try doing Recovering the BIOS.  Then download and install the F.35 Rev A.

Please keep me informed of how things went.

If you require further assistance, let me know and I will gladly do all I can to help you.

Did not work. I got the same error, "Unable to open BIOS Signature file".

These are the steps I did:
1) Confirmed current BIOS version: F.2C, 2015/10/20

2) Went through the procedure outlined under "Recovering the BIOS"

3) Downloaded SP75959.exe from the HP website for my laptop, which contains BIOS ver. F.35 Rev.A (Jun 26, 2016) [ Located here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Spectre-13-4100-x360-Convertible-PC/8499273/model... ]

4) Followed the installation wizard

5) Computer restarted automatically, & entered the BIOS update screen

6) Error: "Unable to open BIOS Signature file"

7) Booted into Windows

I went to the HP support site and chatted with a rep for a while. He insisted that I had to download and install SP75959.exe (which I already tried), and then wanted to take direct control of my laptop which I categorically refused. Sad to say it wasn't very helpful.
While I know it isn't recommended, would getting the BIOS update through the hardware manufacturer's support site work?
I will try updating with a USB stick before it comes to that, though.
