wifi lost with lid down

Have just bought a HP-15-G094SA laptop (15.6" laptop with Windows 8.1). Whenever I close the laptop lid, I lose the wifi connectivity.

I have checked Power Settings to make sure wifi adapter remains enabled at all times. Have also gone to Control Panel --> network and sharing --> change adapter settings --> right click on connected wifi network ---> properties --> configure --> power management --> untick allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Neither of these has fixed the problem.

Would like to use the laptop with lid closed by pluggin it through my TV via HDMI cable, but can't because of the loss of wifi.

Re: wifi lost with lid down

Hello again Fil1404,

It is good to hear from you again!

Since changing the power settings in the control panel menu did not resolve your issue, I recommend loading the original software and hardware drivers that came with your computer. This can be done by following this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8). To update the newly installed drivers, please follow this document on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8)

If the WiFi radio still deactivates after closing the lid, I recommend performing a backup and recovery of your Operating System. This can be done by following this document on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8). This should help return your system back to factory defaults.

Re: wifi lost with lid down

Hello @Fil1404,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I have read your post on how you are looking to enable your wireless adapter when you close your notebook's lid, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!

To ensure that all of your power management settings allow for wifi connectivity with a closed lid, I recommend following the steps below, starting from the Desktop:

Step 1. Click the Windows Key button on your keyboard

Step 2. Type Control Panel

Step 3. Click the Control Panel icon in the top-right hand corner

Step 4. Click on Power Options

Step 5. Under the selected power plan you have configured, click on "change plan settings"

Step 6. Click on Change advanced power settings

Step 7. Under the "Advanced Settings" tab, please click the [+] button next to Power buttons and lid

Step 8. Click the [+] button next to Lid close action

Step 9. Change "On Battery" and "Plugged in" to "Do nothing" instead of sleep

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

Regards :)

Re: wifi lost with lid down

I have tried changing the power options already and this didn't fix the issue.

Re: wifi lost with lid down

I  loaded the original hardware drivers that came with your computer, but only the ones for the wifi button.

This has fixed the problem.

Thank you.
