If your HP notebook's built-in webcam is not working on Windows 10 & 11,

Follow these steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue:


1. Check Webcam Privacy Settings

  • Privacy Switch: Some HP notebooks feature a privacy switch located on the side of the computer or near the camera. Make sure this switch is set to enable the webcam.

  • Shutter Key: If your notebook has a webcam shutter key on the keyboard, ensure it is not turned off. You may need to press the fn key along with the shutter key.

2. Verify Webcam Software Access

Ensure that applications have permission to use the webcam.

  • Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  • Ensure Camera access it is set to on.
  • Enable camera access for the specific apps you want to use it with.


3. Select the Correct Webcam in Software

  • Open your webcam software and ensure the webcam is selected as the video capture device.


4. Update Webcam Drivers

  • HP Support Assistant: Use it to find and install updates, including drivers.

  • Windows Update: Check for any available updates by searching for and clicking on "Check for updates."


5. Troubleshoot Hardware Conflicts

If the webcam still isn't working, consider uninstalling any unnecessary webcam software or drivers to prevent conflicts. You may also try reinstalling your webcam software.


6. Use Device Manager

To check and update your webcam driver:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand the Imaging devices category.
  3. Right-click your webcam, select "Update driver," and then choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."


7. Reset or Replace Webcam

If the webcam continues to malfunction, consider resetting your device to a previous restore point when it was working. If all else fails, you may need to replace the webcam.
